Help, won't work So I've just downloaded the trial for Creature Editor to check it out. It also downloaded EA download manager - whatever that is. Anyhow, download seemed to go fine, but when I double click on the launch icon it only comes up with the first intro screen of the game. It then flashes and takes me back to the desktop. Use a Radeon 9800XT, drives up to date. Any ideas would be appreciated!
Rather the same problem here. DL went fine, game and DL manager a okay. When the game starts, its the rating, then the EA button for about a second, then black screen and back to the desktop with no error message. My computer meets or excedes the min specs on all accounts. I've even made sure all the drivers are updated, video card, sound, direct x.. Now, my video card is a ATI radeon HD 2600 XT. This is all I can come up with as to the source of the problem. While the 2600 is supported, perhaps the HD or XT additions are causing some unforseen problems, but I don't know of any workaround short of another card, and that is beyond my means. I don't forsee another driver being realeased anytime soon though, as the latest is dated 05/12/08. Any ideas would be appericated.
Sorry Josh, Let's see. Win XP service pack 2 AMD Sempron 2.11 GHz 1.87 GB of ram ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 512MB 143 gb Hard drive DirectX 9.0c Not sure what else to include.
That's alot of info Fire, I'd hate to spam or anything. Also, the updated Directx didn't fix the problem, but thank you for suggesting it. If there are certain areas of the dxdiag that you don't need, it would be no prob to cut and paste. I just shudder at the thought of a post that cluttered.
Let's try this. Start Spore Creature Creator. If it quits, let's see if Windows logged anything. Goto Start > Run Type in EventVwr, Press Enter. Look under Applications and see if any error messages appear in related to Spore.
The only error that ocured at the right time is category 100 event 1000. no other real details. However, and I have no idea why, upon opening the CC, it launched properly. The creation process worked and closed with no hitches. The only error that appeared did so after closing, and was an unknown http. More than likely because I did not attempt to share my test creation. I cannot for the life of me figure why it works now. All I have done was power down the system, but I believe this was done several times post DL of the creator with no positive results. Perhaps because I actually did a cold reboot and not just a restart, I'm not sure. I'll try it again after work today and update here. Thank you Josh and Fire, for your help. We'll see what happens.
Click those two open and send the data out to Microsoft and post the results please. Those are usually serious errors.
I had this problem, it was fixed by uninstalling the EA downloader (after I used it to download the full version) and just running the game without it.
On a whim, I tried Mxz's idea. While I still only have the free version, the results were the same, i can play it with no errors or inturruptions. I'm not sure why, but it does seem like the EA downloader was the source of my problems. I'm hoping to get the hard copy of the CC tommorow. I'll let you know if it works any better. Thank you all for your help so far.
