    laptop problems...

i recently purchased a new laptop.
it's a dell inspiron 1525. i'm running windows vista home premium.
the game often stops responding. most usually when i finish creating a family and attempt to save it. but also when i try to load a household, or open a neighborhood. also, when i try to open a neighborhood or a household, it will open, but the screen will be black and then's when i open the task manager it tells me it's not responding. i've tried closing background tasks to make it run smoother. that sometimes work, but really the game just seems to be acting finicky. it never fully works properly, but it works okay on occasion, for no particular reason that i can see. oh, and the application occasionally crashes, but not very often. it's only done that maybe twice or three times.
i've seen a few similar problems listed on the site but they were running on different processors.

any thoughts or help is much appreciated.
    thanks.

This is exactly why I joined this forum today... I'm having the EXACT same problem. It won't load any households, usually.... but sometimes it does. Usually it just 'loads' forever but never actually loads anything, and then when it does sort of work it crashes for no reason. I hate Vista...

    Hmm...
Vista really doesn't like the sims,
    does it?
I'm having the same problem too!
Please tell me SOMEONE has a solution...

  5. From what I read at TheSims2.com its probably the graphics driver you have.

You probably could try right clicking on the icon that you use to launch the game and go to properties>>Compatibility and change the drop down box to Windows XP.
