'Sexting': A Disturbing New Teen Trend? http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=101735230 Sigh... and I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner. With any form of technology can come abuse. Do you think this should be happening where kids are prosecuted?? What should be done about this?
Call me cynical, but I say... nothing. Reasons: A parent cannot supervise their children all the time. That's unrealistic and unfair. A child should not be able to be convicted of the production and propogation of child porn... if they are the object of the photos in question. (Don't get me wrong, they should be removed from the media by which they are displayed... but they shouldn't be charged.) I don't think that these activities should find them banned from any school functions. Those extracurriculars are designed in part to help keep kids off the streets after school. Furthermore, their actions in no way diminished their physical ability to effectively perform on a cheerleading squad. If anything were to happen, it should be to the people who spread the photos around--not to the girls themselves. Strike that. I take it back. The girls should be sent to finishing school.
I would have done the same when I was a kid..16 is that really a kid? I lost my you no what.. earlier then that..but then again that was the 70's.. to punish some one for being a youthful curios person..not in a sane world.. there is allot more to say about this subject..Youth, and sex..
I don't really think there is much we should do about that. I did some pretty stupid stuff when I was 16. I know a lot of people in high school that would have done something like that. However, we did not have the ability to text photo messages. That was more then 10 years ago. cell phones were not all that common yet. On another note, this is not something new. I remember going to a friends house and a bunch of the male swimmers lined up and there where photos. I won't go in to detail... Did they get passed around, you bet but nothing bad came of it. If anything, the kids are punishing themselves by letting the photo's get out. They have to deal with all their friends, classmates, teachers, etc. actually seeing these photos. It is very irresponsible for the teens to go passing the photos around. However I highly doubt that the thought that they are technically distributing child porn ever crossed their minds. However, when adults start taking part in the activity, we cross in to a whole new world. Then you can go on to well does 18 count etc. So I will leave it at that. So, long story short, do I think these kids should be facing felony charges that could ruin their lives for doing what they were doing, no? They've already embarrassed themselves enough. Although I guess the school can't just sit back and do nothing. However what, I don't know.
Well this problem along with other problems will not simply be fixed with a right and a wrong teaching....Until we start teaching kids morality what are we to expect?Oh how scary the thought is if our youth isn't tought a since of value....Self Worth, Founding principals....What type of Society and culture are we fostering...Punishment shouldn't even be a option since there shouldn't be a problem...Or Moral epidemic..What standerd we hold Society to is the standered they live by...Low standered is the reason we see low results. So see I couldn't really comment on what punishment should be instituted on that Individual...When the real problem is we have low expectations of or youth,We do not teach Fundamentals...Were to busy teaching physics..Will Physics pave the way for a better society?Or will upstanding Principals?
