Game turns monitor off and freezes pc after a few minutes.. I decided to start playing sims 2 again after a long period of not doing so, and when I did, after a few minutes the screen went black as it had turned my monitor off. I could still hear the sounds of the game but they soon stopped too. This happens everytime I run the game. It's strange because when I played it 6 months ago on this very PC I never had this problem. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, run the scandisk, defragged, closed as many background programs as possible, updated my video card drivers, and yet still, I get this problem. Any ideas? Help much appreciated.
Could you please post a dxdiag of your system so we'll have an idea of your system specs. Click the start button and right above it will be "run" Click that and type in dxdiag and press enter. When it's done gathering all it's info (watch the green bar at the bottom) click the "Save all Information" button and save it to your desktop. Once you've done that you can either right mouse click and send it to a compressed (zipped) folder and attache it to your next post or copy and paste the first few lines of text down to the end of the sound devices section and include it in your next post.
No I mean does it occur when you plain ol' just use the pc for several hours at a time or only when you're gaming? If you have any other games that you play try one of those and play it for a while and see if it does it. Something you might look at is if the fans and vent holes on the pc are plugged up with dust and gunk. If it's got a fan on the gpu make sure it's free of dust too. Get you a can of canned air and use it to blow out your vents and fans.
Oh right no I can be on the PC for several hours and it's fine. I'll try playing another game to see if it happens and the my PC fans are very dusty so I'll give that a try too! Thanks for the suggestions.
