    No video.

Hello, i just installed The Sims 2 Double Deluxe today and am having troubles. I got double deluxe in hope of fixing this same exact problem with my deluxe edition game, but it didnt. Here is the problem. When I hit start game from the welcome panel, or whatever that is when you click on the shortcut icon, my game starts up but it is just a black screen. I can see the sims 2 mouse cursor and can move it around, and i also can hear all of the sound that i should be hearing. I just cant see anything except the mouse cursor. I have updated my video drivers and have completly reinstalled the game. I need any help i can get. Thank you very much!

swmeek I got your benevolent dictator pal!!

If you could post up a dxdiag of your system it would help us with an answer.
In Windows xp click the start button and you will see the "run" optiion.
Type in dxdiag and click ok , let it run and then click " save all information "
When it asks you to save it somewhere choose your desktop.
Once it's done right mouse click it and click send to "compressed (zipped) folder"
Attach that to your reply please.
In Vista click start and in the search option type the exact same thing and just follow the same procedure as Xp in attaching it to your reply.
It sounds to me like your cpu, ram or video device isn't up to snuff on playing the game.

    Yes you're right about that.
This should play this with no problems whatsoever.
The only thing I might suggest is to downgrade the driver to a lower driver.
It being so new there may be an issue with it Nvidia isn't aware of.
You might also go through the readme on that driver and see if it lists any problems with Sims 2.
Before you install the new driver do a thorough cleaning of your drivers first using a program called Driver Sweeper.
You can get it from www.guru3d.com
Download the program and the new driver.
Reboot again and start the game up with all your background processes turned off(i.e. anti-virus, firewall, spyware detector and internet connection).
I would go back to the late 17x. drivers to start with.
Uninstall the old driver and then reboot into into safe mode by tapping the F8 as your computer boots up.
Once there go in and run Driver sweeper and have it remove all the Nvidia video drivers and then defragment your hard drive.
Then reinstall the new drivers for the card.
I know that the game does not utilize SLI as it's not designed to do so so I'm wondering since the 9800 GX2 is basically a hard wired SLI set-up (basically two video cards sandwiched together) if that's a reason why it's doing so.
If you can get your hands on a single video card and try that I would suggest that to see if it makes any difference.
If you get a picture with another video card it's safe to say your card won't work with the game, is defective in some way unless you know it works with other games that utilize more gpu power than the Sims 2 or that perhaps the power supply you're using isn't powerful enough to handle the card at load.
I do believe this card is a power hungry monster.
I could see the possibility that the power supply isn't up to the card's feeding habits and it's simply shutting down the video part of the game.
Can you tell me what the specs call for a minimum requirement for that card and what your power supply is ?

I will try this drive sweeper thing tomorrow because it sounds like it is a lengthy process. Yeah I have a feeling it might be the fact that the GX2 is basically 2 video cards. I really hope this is not the case. I will try to get my hands on a different video card to try that out as well. As for the GPU power i dont think that is a problem because i can run crysis on this computer without any problems.

UPDATE! I was able to get it working. I just went back to the 17x drivers and worked my way up and found one that works for the game! Thank you for your help!
