problem launching sims 3 Hi, I just installed sims 3 on my new laptop and it doesn't work. I tried to run it from the desktop icon but the launcher doesn't open because it stopped working or something. Then when I tried to open the game from C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 3\the sims 3\Game\Bin, it states "This application has failed to start because d3dx9_31.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." So I did reinstall it and the same thing happens. I also installed the game on my dad's XP desktop and my cousin's Vista laptop and they both work just fine. Please help. I found the missing file and figured it out. Thanks for your help guys!
I'm not 100% on this, but I think it's your graphics card. Everything else seems good. You have enough RAM, HD Space, Processor...everything, but it just looks like your graphics card could be the problem. I suppose one of the experts could give you a more detailed response, I just thought I'd tell you my opinion. When was it that you bought your laptop? Val.
Go to your laptop's support site and download and install the latest video drivers they have there. Yours if I read it correctly are 3 years old. You might also go to Microsoft's website and see if they have any updates for your DirectX package also. (in case it's not upgraded lately). Also once you do all this you might want to update your game to the latest patch as it fixes a bug with Intel chipsets too. (display bug)
I just bought it this weekend from my boyfriend's computer store, but I'm not sure when it was actually bought. It was brand new when I opened it so I'm not sure what might be the real problem, but thanks for your opinion
