What's with people predicting earthquakes?

What's with people predicting earthquakes?

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but what's with people attempting to predict earthquakes? it's absurd! No one has yet to soundly predict exactly when and where an earthquake will take place. There is news all over facebook and twitter the last few hours about some mega quake that's suppose to strike the LA City area with an excess of 9.0. -___-

 

I don't care so much about when the next big one is; I just facepalm each time people say they've managed to predict when the next "earthquake is". The other day, twitter was on fire with people saying a 9.0 would hit in the next 48hours -____-;
