OK I finally figured out how to close a pop up that HAS no way to close it!! When the pop up is there on the screen, hit Alt + F4 and it closes the window!! That's what I had to do to get rid of it!

I've started getting this thing where if I press "back" it doesn't go anywhere because theres a page that it goes to for a split second before forwarding me to the link I clicked's page.

argh...I might consider inserting a popup blocking script.

But its not actually a pop-up (for me anyway) as its in the same window, its more like some weird form of counter (I never see an advert).

I generally get two, three or four every time I change a page on this forum. They are a little bit of a nuisance because I have to click 'No'. Last time I check on Temporary Internet Files I had about 12,000 (yes - really) (not all from this forum) and at 1 GB each that is a very great deal of storage space. So I altered the 'filter' to make them ask me. It looks as though I will have to alter it to stop them. The only trouble is that that stop 'friends' as well.
Why are there so many advertisements? I don't want to gamble what very little money I have and I am not interested in the other blandishments that they like to present. If I want to buy something I search for it myself.
Still, I am happy to accept advertisements that do not interfere with what I want to do provided that they do not mean that I have to do something, such as click 'No' every few minutes.

The best way to manage pop up ads is to download a pop-up killer like Pop Up Stopper. It kills almost every pop-up that comes up, it's very nice.

Philip, can I have your hard drive? I could use 12 TB of space myself...

Chairman Matt: I am afraid that I have a firewall operating, hence the number of 'pop ups' that I get. I shall put it on 'block everything' and then, perhaps, I will not get them.
Sorry I can't offer you use of a bit of my hard drive. I have 60 GB and I don't use anywhere near all of it I was told that I ought to have it in case I get a digital video cam and start recording things. I haven't got one, and I don't intend to buy one. At present I have a printer that keeps telling me what is fairly urgent and what is not.

It's a bit strange actually. I did have pop-ups here, but they're gone now. Haven't seen any for some time now anyway. i hvae a firewall built into the router we use here. I get loads of pop ips when I search the web and visit other sites.

Popups comes at the mainsite. Gator for example. Both SMVelvet and devann got them recently when they wanted to visit the mainsite and the forums.

I'm not getting the pop ups like I used to... for a moment it looked like I was getting one, the computer slowed down loading the next page, and the url in the status bar looked like an ad url.. but then it went on to the forum page. I got the problem with hitting the back button though, so I ended up clicking the little down arrow to view the back history and go back beyond the weird ad looking url. :) Whatever you've done about the pop ups seems to be working for me Josh! Thanks!!

I don't have any popups here in the forums area. Only a few on the main page, not a bother for me, I just close them as they come up. :classic:

I noticed more the last couple of days, too. Mostly the one "About Blank" here in the forums.
