Since they weren't actually hacked, but a group pointed out that they could be hacked, perhaps Origins will fix the security problem before it actually does get hacked.
It's not hacking Origin, it's hacking the end user, allowing the 'hacker' to execute code on your computer. If an actual attacker knew about this, they wouldn't have announced it, so it could have be found and be already in use for quite some time.
I shouldn't be surprised they found this as it seems like they find them all the time in other software too.
