Christmas Adventures! Well since I've been gone for so long, I thought I'd try to bring everyone up to date on my current adventures, and make a thread people can post THEIR Christmas adventures in! We brainstormed and came up with a TON of silly ideas on how to try to defend the christmas tree from our 3 cats this year... I even thought of trying to cage it in with chicken wire, but that's just not going to look very festive and joyful!! I ended up getting out the fake tree and then setting up just the base and pole part, and TYING that center part to the Baker's Rack, which is like a bookshelf with a metal frame that the microwave sits on! I tied the tree up like a prisoner, jammed right up against the wall and rack, and then we only put in about half the branches.. so we have half a tree firmly lashed to a metal post!! :whitekitty: The cats have already climbed it and knocked ornaments down and knocked limbs out... but the tree still stands! No big CRASH in the middle of the night!
LOL!!! I know exactly what they can accomplish the little cats. :classic: My tree fell over - so I had to tie it to a hook in the ceiling (for lamps). And that tree was a fake one but still it sort of behaved like a real tree, needles coming off. I wonder how......??? Could it be those little kittens??
When I had cristmas last year all the reletives were coming over and we had a really big tree full of decorations! and then our cat jumped on ot and the whole tree came down! not very nice cristmas
heehee yep, I'm trying HARD to not have the kitties knock down the tree!! This morning they had TWO branches dragged completely across the room from the tree!! And ONE of the cats way triumphantly LYING on top of his branch, like a conquest!!! ooooh they got yelled at and the branches stuffed back in the tree!
Heehee we thought of just making the tree out of barbed wire... but THAT wasn't such a great idea!! I honestly considered for a while the idea of getting one of those high fancy fireplace screens to sort of shield the bottom of it so the cats couldn't climb up... but we figured they would just find some way to get around or over that.... :whitekitty: :whitekitty:
About how heavy were your cats when you hooked the tree to the cieling Nina? I thought of that... but we'd have to borrow a drill from my hubby's parents to install the hook... and my cats are over 10 pounds each!! That's 30-something pounds if they all jumped the tree at once! I wasn't sure how much weight those hooks hold.... heh.
Hehehe. Well it wasn't just one cat.. Hrm.. It's was 5 naughty kittens trying to see who first came to the top.... Do I have to say any more?? I learned to always have plastic decorations at the lowest barnches that were nonbreakable and like no glittre there. lol. That way they were content. :classic:
haha I'm glad we don't have FIVE little kitties racing to the top of the tree Nina!! :whitekitty: :whitekitty: :whitekitty: :whitekitty: :whitekitty: All our decorations are unbreakable too now! The baby pen area and little tree decoy are interesting ideas.... hmmm....
Awwe Josh. How cute. Just that babykittens climbs anything. So you need something like a huge steels cage with roof on as well. Anyway. That was years ago. Today I have one of them still here. It's my red and white Opus, now 15 years old. And he doesn't climb trees anymore. :classic:
hmmm... I wonder if my cats will grow up to the age they don't want to climb the tree anymore.... The cats had dragged branches out of the tree again this morning... sigh. We're thinking maybe if we cage in the whole base area of the tree perhaps the cats won't actually launch themselves from the floor INTO the tree.... :whitekitty: :whitekitty:
Hrmmm.. Well.. I think they will Fae. Sounds like you cats are very inventive so.. They would probably climb to the top of the fence and then... hrm... well.... *covers her eyes and ears* I know it's not the best look but take try take off the lowest branches and think like this: *It could have been worse, it could have been a real tree...* And in the same time - you can't help but smiling - they are hilarious the cats - sometimes. sort of :ermm:
hmmmm well... the reason I'm not so sure the cage idea would work would probably be a reason taking the bottom branches out might not work too well either... see, the tree is lashed to the baker's rack, a piece of furniture that has a SHELF that the cats can jump on!! From the shelf they can get to the WHOLE TREE!! Or half a tree, as the case may be... Looks like for now we're just reconstructing the tree every morning when we get up!! Or actually, my hubby gets up and swears it's fine when he leaves for work... *I* wake up later and find cats dragging branches through the house!!! Then I kind of grab them and shove them in the tree to get them away from the cats... and the poor tree isn't put to rights till my hubby comes back home and helps me untangle it all!
heehee... great idea... except we don't HAVE another room to put them in!! Just the bedroom, that they're not allowed in, except for the Attack Kitty... and the Bathroom which is TINY and we'd have to catch them and put them back every time we got up in the night for the bathroom!! haha!!
... uh oh... My hubby is just now straightening out the christmas tree and fixing it... and we're MISSING one branch!!!
Thank goodness my Nala is content with her climbing tree and doesn't bother with the Christmas tree. Too bad they don't do it when you are looking or you could have a can with marbles in it and shake it when they do it. They don't like that sound and run in another room. :classic:
