    Deluxe VS. Original

I assumed Deluxe was created to take over the Original Sims and had the bonus of Livin large included. I thought what a swell idea, to eliminate the need of buying the expansion pack and getting a bigger bang for your buck! Well, I guess I may have been wrong. I have a feeling that without the original sims game, Deluxe will not support any of the expansion packs on it's own. I oughta know. I am running it now with house party and hotdate. I did a clean uninstall. I deleted all my folders completely and then installed Deluxe, house party and hotdate. There is not enough support without the original game. I had been running it with the Original and it was working fine. i even threw Unleashed in the mix and all was grand. Then I had some problems, so I uninstalled all and reinstalled Deluxe, hp, hd, and UL. Guess what? Never worked again! I had to take UL outta the mix and my game is SLOWWWW and mixed up. I had gotten rid of my original game, thinking I would'nt need it. I could kick myself. I just ordered it and will see if I am right. Anyone have any ideas? Was I wrong im my assumption that deluxe was created to replace Original or was it meant for just another expansion?

Deluxe WAS meant to be a new "starter kit" for the sims, so people who didn't have ANY of it could buy Deluxe and jump right in and play, and add the expansion packs too... it's supposed to run better and faster, in a different way too. I would check the minimum requirements on the box in case it calls for more RAM or speed (mhz) than the Original Sims game did!!! I'm sorry you're having so many problems with it!! :(

Deluxe was meant as both an expansion pack and a starter kits

Deluxe contains both The Sims and Living Large however they added some new stuff like objects and skins.

It also comes with a new program, I can't remember what. But it is for designing skins.

The new program it came with is Sims Creator, and it is really easy to use to redo or make new skins for the meshes that you already have in the game. I have already started redoing and making new skins for my sims. Now, to find a way to add more accessories to the game that will work in the Creator.

I like Deluxe as it polishes the loading time and the extras

Before I got Deluxe, I looked at pics of the objects it came with and at the time didn't care too much about them. Now that I have it and have added some of the objects to the game, they look better than I thought they would. Oh, I really love that they added some themed items and skins to the game also. Especially the roman and futuristic pieces. :classic:

Also, in my country the Orginalnal and Unleashed rated G8+ (KA-us), and deluxe is M 15+-probably include some mature animations interactions with the sims-as is HD/LL/HP/TSV. I think deluxe has very similar requiremrents to the first.

Just looked at the box my Deluxe came in and it is rated T for Teen. The system requirements are: Windows XP/98/95 (NT not supported); CPU: 233MHz Pent. ll processor; RAM 64MB (128MB required for XP or if you have other expansions) 1.4 GB free hard drive space plus space for saved games (additional space required for Windows swap file). That is just the system not including the video and sound card requirements.
There have been a lot of people having trouble with using Deluxe as the starter for the sims and then adding the expansions. It really does do better if you have The Sims added first. It is hard for them to get the expansions to install and run successfully.

lusty, if you could provide specs on your PC, we could probably figure out why the performance went down dramatically.
