Hi there! Hi there, if you can't tell I'm new here! I was wondering if I could pick a brain out there? I have an instalation problem. Is there some sort of trick or patch to get HD to work - I have everything before HD and it works fine, I have HD and it works fine. Put them all together and ... nothing! I get an error that says I have installed a expanstion pak after HD. Now I have tried many ways to try and get them all together (ex. installing in order of release; cut and paste; installing the TS, HP, LL and then putting HD in to it and still nothing. Can someone please help, I have no more ideas left to get them all to work together! (and after that I want to get vaction and unleashed - but one thing at a time right!) Well if you have any questions for me - I'll be around to answer! Thanks Green_Ivy:smoke:
I agree with Tecno, we need to know what windows system and how much ram you have. Also, the order is TS, LL, HP, HD. Before doing a complete reinstall from scratch, I also recommend uninstalling, using the sims eraser, scan disk, defrag, and then reinstall.
ok then, I have win 98 upgraded win 2000. I have an 80 gb hard drive with 40 free, as for memory I had 128 - bought another 128 last year and I honestly don't know how much of that is free at the moment. Sorry I reversed the HP and LL when typing, but the result is the same. Is a defrag really nessasary? It takes a very long time! I did get the sims eraser from the site! Just waitin' on using it! Kinda wanted to know what I was doing wrong first - so I wouldn't do it again! Thanks Green_Ivy
You are going to have to start over again. I would recommend uninstall, use the eraser, scan disk and defrag(yes, you should do this at least once a month when playing the sims), reinstall in order checking each one after installing to make sure that it is working before adding the next one.
Before I do this - I have Some questions. Will sim eraser, erase every thing for sims? Inculding anything I have downloaded? Should I move them to a safe location? Is there a safe location? Will it go through my entire c drive? d drive? How does it work? Sorry I'm not a big techie, so ... Thanks Green_Ivy
What I did was make me a new folder and named it "My backup" and moved my The Sims folder there. That way all your files are safe. Then I used the eraser, and then ran scan disk and defrag. You can do all your drives with this. Then I reinstalled each one one at a time and checked it to make sure that they installed ok and played. After you have a working game, then start adding things back from the folders that you saved.
