A foreign game. There is a game which I believe is good. It has done well in the country in which it was released, which is not English speaking. That country runs the forum and they say that they have no intention of providing an English speaking forum. Their present forum is very largely in their own language. At first I felt I ought to tell them what I thought that that was likely to do to their games chances now that they have released it throughout most of the world - U.S.A., anyway. They might not appreciate that? I shall not buy it, although I had intended to do so. What would you do? I really would like to see the game do well in English speaking countries. This, incidentally, covers a very large part of the world because most countries teach English as a second language. I suppose it could be American English.
What kind of game is it? I know that there are some games that people will buy in a different language if it doesn't effect the way you play the game, such as having to read instructions and prompts to further the game play itself.
I was trying to keep that a secret. I do not have the spirit to write to them direct and even less do I have the spirit to write to them indirectly. Sorry.
I agree with you Philip that it might be an interesting game but admit that I understand the company's reluctance to incur expense in converting it to English or have an English forum...As I've said elsewhere in the forums, many American companies refuse to send some products to Canada because of the additional expense of printing packaging in English and French and feel there wouldn't be enough of a market to justify doing so... It bites but I don't know how to change the situation.
The company itself chose to translate the game into several different languages, of which English is one. So why won't they create a separate forum for people, like me, who speak and write only English. I have been abroad twice and managed half a dozen words of a foreign language but virtually everyone spoke English so it was quite ok.
hmm, have no idea but get what you're saying...do they think that having a forum in English wouldn't be worth the cost and trouble? If you want to go to the forum isn't there software programs on the net that will translate for you so you can participate?
I know it would. There is another site run by a German speaking country which has a section, including forums, completely in English. I like going to that forum on occasion. I am not keen on going to a forum where most of the threads are in a language I cannot speak (well, perhaps a very tiny bit - halbtageskarten, bitte?). I am quite certain that a number of people feel exactly the same way, and a number have mentioned it on the forum.
