    Of Average Intelligence.

I saw a programme on BBC1 last night (ie the premier british channel) on average intelligence. There were a lot of people taking part, although I 'chickened out' after getting three quarters of the way through.
My wife got 116 and the city traders won but Wales was last again (they were last in 2002).
I have come to the firm conclusion that I am dim - like a light bulb that is on the way out? Not because I am on the way out, but because I am dim.
No-one gave their personal iq just in case it might be held against them. I wonder what the iq is of the 'average' person these days - if there is one.
The blondes didn't do too well, and neither did the body builders or the mechanics, but the tax inspectors did. They came second.
    The men beat the women????

I feel that IQ isn't an accurate way of depicting one's intelligence since there are lots of conclusive evidence that there are many ways of thinking, but they lead to same, similar, or different conclusions.

I might just be rambling :)eek:) but intelligence is a squishy subject.....The "Average" really depends on if you want the average of humanity or something more specific.....:tired:
What exactly was the show about, anyway? Yes "average inteligence" but having not seen it, was it a contest, or what?

I have an IQ of 126. That's high for my age. 120 is the IQ of the average collage garduate has an IQ of 120. However it might be different in other countries. That average for is for canadians. I heard Americans and Britons have lower IQ's.

The definition of an average I.Q. is 100. 100 is the median of the bell curve (50 percent of the population fall below that score, 50 percent of the population fall above that score). In theory, if we as a species or society become more intellegent we should up the standards (if 50 percent of a population could achieve 110, 110 should be the new 100).

Yes, but it also depends on the country's education system, and usually culture. Countries like Germany and Japan have strict school boards, that's why they have the highest IQ's in the world. I'm not saying other countries are stupid, I'm just talking about the average.

I am not sure how much iq actually means. If I have a high iq but I am a lazy person who will not try am I better than a person with a low iq who is hard working and honest?
If I want to fiddle my taxes or cheat people will I be more likely to do that if I have a low iq than if I have a high iq?
Other things being equal, a person with a high iq will learn quicker - but other things are never even.

    IQ Test

Emode.com has a PhD Certified IQ test. It's just an online quick one, but it's pretty acurate.

    Is IQ inherited?

There is a statistical relationship between the I.Q.s of parents and children. I'm not sure how strong the coorelation is. Some will argue it's because of the genes, some will say it's because of the environment the children are raised in. Most 'experts' think nature and nurture both play a role.

If one is smart and the other not so smart and there are two kids then, they should be somewhat like both? or could both take after one of either parents?

I think IQ is a very subjective thing. Some people do very well on a standardized test and thus appear to have a high IQ yet someone who does poorly may exhibit above average IQ in other reasoning areas...or may get the question wrong because they have thought of other answers that while correct are deemed wrong by the examiner. I was told in school that I had an IQ of 130 but chose not to attend university, instead marrying and having children...does this mean the IQ test was wrong or that I was lazy.... I really think that alot of labelling is done on people and that it really doesn't matter...besides I had a brother that rated higher than I and he never married nor was he ever a really functioning member of society.... Agree with me or not, that is my opinion of the importance of IQ tests...

I have the answer to the whole problem - forget it. IQ matters to some extent but other things, other aspects of your personality, may matter far more. So if you have a high iq you may study a subject for half an hour and know most of the answers. If you have a lower iq then you may need to study for an hour to have the same understanding. Does it matter in the end? I don't think so.
Everyone has something go give and no-one should ever be written off.

Bingo Philip!! My point exactly!! We each have special, God-given talents and abilities and it's how we apply those gifts in our lives that count not statistical little numbers!

Too many people in our country are marginalized as useless, etc. but all of us have something to give to our communities. For example, I have a foster brother who is handicapped but every day he goes downtown to the different businesses and greets everyone with a big smile and knows everyone. In the view of the State, he is an expense and not a contributer to our GNP, etc. but how many people are cheered by his friendly smile and encouraging words each day?

There was a class of students investigating abortion based on the history of the parents, etc. They were given a scenario and asked to vote, and they all voted to abort the foetus. "Congratulations", said the Teacher "You have just killed Beethoven!" Absolutely everybody has something to give and some people have a very great deal to give if we can only find it.

    Did anyone take the test?

I agree, no matter what IQ you have, you have something to give.

Yes simzer, I did and scored well.

IQ dosen't mean much except that you know how to take a multiple choice test. The real test is common sense. I know many "brains" who exhibit no common sense at all.

    After all, genius is relative.
