Crashes while saving In addition to info listed in troubleshooting, here is some great info compiled by kgalgano on some possible reasons and fixes for crashes on saving the game: 1) The folder for your game has been set to read-only. Right click on your game folder and select properties. If read-only is checked, uncheck it. In particular, make sure the Sims and Userdata folders are writable. 2) The game is failing to export the HTML code that is written into your saved game. This is an old issue. Also note that the crash can corrupt character files. If you find this has happened, delete the character's User.iff file from the Userdata\Characters folder. Then, copy the FAM file for this Sim from Userdata\Export to Userdata\Import. Go into the game and import the family. They will be fine again. Make sure if you are routinely having this porblem, that you go into your game options and turn the Export HTML option off. You will find that game saves are faster with this option off, as well. 3) Your graphics acceleration may be set too high. Resetting it from Full to Basic can resolve this. 4) You are not logged in as the Administrator/Owner or your account does not have administrator access. This is only applicable if you are running Windows XP.
I found that out from a Maxis Producer. They tested the game with many different kinds of operating systems. But of course they couldn't test it with every single operating system in the world. And with every single piece of software that someone might have. So it was inevitable that some people would have problems due to some Cd burner software, 3rd person Patches, objects, programs, etc...(example, I had one of their earlier patches which needed to be overwritten and I had to uninstall) What they neglected to do was write that information in the installation notes. You should see the BBS files at thesims.com. Its just filled with people who can't fun their games correctly. Although, now that my game is in top running order, I think it was worth the problems. I probably wouldn't think that if I couldn't play the game at all. Sincerely, Amy
