Please... HeLp Me!! Hello, I need some Simming help! In my Create-a_Sim screen (ya know... where you create a Sim? ), when I try to create a MALE adult Sim, I have some problems. Choosing a head: Clicking around to find a head, if I click past a certain head, the game crashes. This leaves me with the majority of the heads, but it is still annoying! Choosing a body/outfit: Clicking the arrows to find a body/outfit, if I click past a certain body/outfit, the game crashes. This leaves me with about 7 to 10 outfits, I couldn't say the exact number! Could anyone please give me some insight to WHY this is happening and even possibly, how to stop it? THANK YOU!!!
Maggie, I've had similar problems in the past. It can also happen with walls and floors. If you don't have TheSim's File Cop, I suggest you download a copy of it. I think its available at www.thesims.com If you've run it, and the problem still occurs, you are going to have a little work to do. You can A) try going through the Create a sim screen again and make a point to remember the head before the game crashes. Then go into your maxis/thesims/gamedata/skins folder, find that head and take out the heads immediately after it and before it. (one of those might be a bad head) You can put the heads into a seperate folder on the Desktop, try running the game again without them and go through the Create a sim screen. If it still occurs, it means you didn't locate the right one and you will have to try again. You can B) take all the Male head pictures out of your game and drag them to a new folder on your Desktop. Then put back into your game the heads that you know wont crash your game. Then test the Create-A-Sim screen again. If its okay, then little by little add in a few more heads and then test the game again. If your game crashes in Create-A-Sim screen then you know it must be one of the heads that you put back. There is only One other way that I know of in fixing a problem like this. There is a program called EliSims (http://www.elandnews.com/elisims/) that might also help. In the program you can see all of your skin pictures. If you try clicking on each male head, the Elisims program might crash at a certain head. Then if you open up EliSims and try again, you can then get the name of the head that crashes. If you can see the name of the head before the program shuts down, you can get look for it in your Skins folder. Its quicker than the other suggestions. The EliSims way works for me whenever I've downloaded a bad head or bad wall file from The Sims Resource. Hope you solve your problem Sincerely, Amy Sims
Thanks! Thanks Amy! I'll definetly try those suggestions! Also, do you know if running background programs while playing The Sims (i.e. AIM) could have anything to do with it? I've heard it does, but I've also heard it doesn't... I always have AIM running, forgetting to close it before I play... Hmm. Anyway, thanks a lot!
Hi Maggie Yes, its possible to have some game problems if you have background tasks running. But its unlikely that they would shut your game down in Create-A-Sim all the time, and at the same spot. That must be a skin or skin mesh problem. AIM can cause your game to run slower than usual. A few people that I know had AIM and they had really slow games if it wasn't shut down. Background tasks take up a lot of needed memory. Its suggested by Maxis that you shut down all of your background tasks, including your virus scanner. Then when you are done playing all you have to do is reboot your machine so that all of the background tasks are running again. I also make sure that I don't have a background image on my desktop because that can also suck memory from your game. Sincerely, Amy Sims
