Windows 98SE or Windows ME? Should I upgrade?

Hey Everybody . I have Windows 98SE installed on my computer and I am thinking about going to ME. Should I upgrade? I have heard lots of things about ME such as that it is really unstable and 98SE is better. However, many said things such as this going from Windows 95 to 98. What are the pros and cons about upgrading to ME from 98SE? Ultimately, should I upgrade?

Surely a more powerful computer is required than Microsoft recommends to sufficiently run XP? Just a 300Mhz is the min processor! Wouldn't windows XP run really slowly? Does it require more power than 98SE? Surely 300Mhz can't be correct?
Have I just asked the same question several times using different words?

 

I read somewhere that XP makes your games run about sixteen per cent quicker. The trouble is that it costs real money over here. I think I shall wait until I just have to have another computer.

 

yeah but does it use the same ammount of system resources as Win98SE to run?

 

I believe that it may use more resources than previous editions, but I don't know. I still have Windows Me until I win the lottery.

 

Gee, I had a wonderful post responding to this question but *sob heartbrokenly* see that it is no longer here!! It must have been left in the Simcity thread to languish out of place and all forlorn...ack de himmel...how could the moderator have been so cruel to move Ander5rulz' post....er, how could Ander's have been so cruel as to repost his comments in another thread without deleting his old ones!!! I feel so conflicted!!!

Maybe I should look into purchasing Windows XP. Has Microsoft released any info about a new version of windows it may be releasing?

 

What worries me are the amount of posts that one sees. I don't know why people have such a lot of trouble with practically nothing. I don't have a great deal of trouble with anything, except I have one game which absolutely refuses to load - but it only cost me 1.00 so I am not troubling too much.

 

I have had trouble with Windows Me and I had to load Windows Xp. As a result of that I had trouble with my modem, and I had to buy a new one. All the games that I had on the computer were scrambled, just like egg, and I can't find a one. I am sure I am doing something wrong, but now the computer appears to be working. I lost all my passwords, etc, because, naturally, they were all on what I might call my old computer.

 

OY! That's why i've been putting off formatting and reloading (quite probably w/ Win XP) my computer. I have a LOT of stuff to back up, and a lot of stuff to organize before i could hit Y. Dang it all, the more i wait the more stuff i have to organize and store when i DO format it.

 

Thats the problem Josh. Ya see, I've got a LOT of stuff saved up on this HD, and I would like to retain at least most of it. This is already my second HD and I lost a bunch of information when my last one stopped working all together. Getting a new HD would let me get a fresh start, granted, but I also want to keep the stuff on this one. Getting a HD does me no good, unfortunately. Plus they are not cheap at all, especially to me.

 

I understand that you can daisy link what would be your two harddrives, but you would have only one computer - not two.

 

That is exactly what I was going to suggest, that you just link the two computers and proceed from there.

 

Isn't carrying out a complete format of your existing hard drive the same as buying a new one? I am very tempted to do that but I might have a bit of trouble, but I have no idea where from.
