    controlling your sims life span...

do u think we can control it, or will your sims have to die of old age?

There will be an option to switch it off and let them live forever, but I love the idea of them actually growing old, I just might miss them if they die tho

Everything I've heard about your sims lifespan says they haven't really made it an exact set time in gameplay hours but with the aging process turned on they will age and die of old age. Some people are hoping they can start the game with the aging process turned on, and then when their older sims get to old age they are hoping they can turn off the aging process so their sims get to be grandparents without dying. I haven't heard if you really CAN turn the aging option on and off while playing a sims family. It might be you can choose to use it or not but not change your mind once the family is started. I really hope you can change it while playing though!

Luc said you can control the aging from the house (i'm guessing it's in the options)... i really wanted a setting to control the speed at which they age.. like right now, apparently 4 sim days is one human year (Sim gestation time is 3 days)
I wanted it to be more like 16 sim days = 1 human year
Well, if i turn it off, i guess i can enable aging for 3 days, disable for 13, over and over.

but yes, there will be option to stop aging.

Does that mean they only live for 4 sim days or did you mean that 4 human days equals a sim year?

It would be cool if you could control the years, there could be an option where you could do this. Select either a sim year to be 4,5,6,7,8,9,10, etc sim days.

4 sim days = 1 sim year :p there are 6 stages, i can't seem how that would fit into 4 days.

I'd like to know what a "sim day" is... is that 24 real time hours spent with the game time running? I'd be REALLY confused if my sims had a week where Monday-Thursday counted as my sims aging a year older!!

OKOK!!!! JEEZ!!!! Here's what they're saying...... if a baby takes 3 days to be born, thats like equal to real life ( 9 months) so thats a fraction ( 3/4 ) so it would be FOUR DAYS OF SIM LIFE TO EQUAL ONE SIM YEAR!!!! Not lifetime, not human.... SIM.... ONE SIM YEAR!!! OK.... now someone said there are 6 stages, how will that all fit into four days.... IT WONT!!!!!!! 4 days is one YEAR! Last time I checked, babies dont turn into old people in 1 year. SO.... it will probably like (your total lifespan in game) 4 x 85 = 340 sim days!!! I think, to be honest, that is plenty of time!

SO WTG!!! TaiGuy! You and me just figured out the life span of a sim in sims2 (avg life span) so now, with this info, we can figure out how many days / years are in each life span. Baby = 3 days Toddler = 2nd lowest, Kid = 3rd lowest, teen = 3rd highest, Adult = highest, and elder = 2nd highest ( I know that by facts) OK so 3 + v + w + x + y + z = 340. Hmmmm..... this is impossible to solve at the moment but I CAN put in variables at the moment to get a estimation ( which follows the rules above) so... it could be.... 3 + 16 + 28 + 32 + 156 + 108

OMG I SOLVED IT..... ok even though I didn't show my work I just went though a life time of a real life person.... heres how I did it.... avg toddler = 2yrs - 5 yrs = 4 year total, times 4 = 16 sim days.... you see??? now I will continue...

    avg kid= 6-12 = 7 yrs x 4 = 28 days

    avg teen = 13-20yrs = 8 yrs x 4 = 32 sim days

    avg adult = 21-60 = 39 years x 4 = 156 sim days

    avg elder = 60 - 87 = 27 years x 4 = 108

YOU SEE??!?!?!? WOW IM GOOD!!!! I had no intention of solving it when I started this post.... man, if you put your mind to it you can do anything... thatt whole thing took me about 30 minutes.... Well, NOW YOU GUYS KNOW THE LIFETIME OF A SIM WITH THE NUMBER OF DAYS OF EACH!!! ( if sims2 does what I hope it does, those days will vary by +10 days -10days )

Wow... that's a pretty interesting theory! I wonder how that would work out with the calandars though... they said you would have weekends off and have things like birthdays on the calendar. Any ideas on how that could work into your equations? I'm thinking time might be more relative instead of literal, or they actually WOULD know at Maxis how long a sims life would be.... But I like your calculations!!

Thank you FaeLuna. I am glad that you give me postive feedback instead of make fun of me. I thought it was quite reasonable but I can, and won't say they are 100% correct. Maxis can do what they want for their game and can change anything or add anything any time they want. It hasn't even been added into the game yet, I don't think. But thank you FaeLuna, you are a good person :)

I'm glad you appreciated my comments. :) I'll be curious enough to write down your calculations and try them out when I get the game to see if Maxis did it that way or not! ;)
