Jan 26 2004 Virus ALERT W32.Novarg.A@mm is a mass-mailing worm. The worm will arrive as an attachment with a file extension of .bat, .cmd, .exe, .pif, .scr, or .zip. The worm also contains functionality to perform as a proxy server. It listens on all TCP ports in the range 3127-3198. The worm will perform a DoS starting on February 1, 2004. On February 12, 2004 the worm has a trigger date to stop spreading. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.novarg.a@mm.html Comes in the form of a zip file and will appear to be an email from a System Administrator. Eg: Subject: Hello From: "Mail Delivery System" <MAILER-DAEMON@csmailserv.com> Attached File: test.zip Other subject lines include: Hi, Mail transaction failed, Test, Hello, [none], server report, STATUS, etc.
Thanks for the warning and information on this!! I never open file extensions like any of those from an unknown source, and I've only opened .zip files from friends. I think I'll just not open ANYTHING even if it's something I'm expecting from a friend till after the 12th!
ok i just finished reading this and then i go to check my mail, its downloading and then virus scan comes up "virus detected in this email atachement!" good thing that the virus scan quarenteened it. just thought i would let everybody know to watch out beacuse i thought that i would probally be the last person to get it but guess not. anyways for thoes interested this is what it said im not sure what all thats about
