Sims 2 Box Shots Wonder if these are the box covers for The Sims 2...hmm One for the CD Version and the other for the DVD Version.
I don't know much about this, so which is better to buy, CD or DVD? Are there any performance issues, or do they offer DVD versions to save space because you don't need as many discs?
Do we need a DVD drive to play the DVD version of the game? Or does it just have extra content you can view on your tv if you play it on your dvd player? I'm a little confused about what the DVD format MEANS in games!
The DVD needs to go into your DVD ROM or DVD RW. It's not something that works in a player. The main thing that it means is that you don't have to have multiple CDs swapped out when you are installing and you don't have to remember which disc is the one to play the game. An added bonus is that the DVDs can hold so much more information that there is room for extras like little games, interviews, "out-takes" and the like. Also, some people claim that with the DVD ROM (which is a bit faster than a CD ROM or a DVD RW) will allow for faster loading/installing. However, since the game will still install the normal way, it will still take up the usual amount of room on your harddrive.
Tell me about it. The lastest version of UT2004 come with 6 discs!! I'll probably get the DVD version of Sims 2. I have way TOO many CDs to keep track of
Yeah. I have both drives, so might as well get the DVD version at least to cut down on how many CDs it comes with. Oh, btw do you think there will be a strategy guide for the game? I would definately get it just to learn about all the little features and functions in the game.
Prima is putting out the strategy guide. While some people have said it's coming out in July (according to their vendor, which in that case I think was Amazon.ca), at Gamestop they said that they aren't taking preorders until July because it isn't coming out until August, about a month before the game. This is great news because recently the strategy guides hadn't come out until the day the game was actually released. I like being able to read it before the game comes out so that I have a better feel for where I want to start on the game. (Like full speed ahead into the tutorial family or start doing my own building and do actual play when I have my own setup.)
Really... Im getting that stradegy guide... from EB- September 15 is its release... so its amazon right... yeah.... now I am even happier...
Nooo........... Crap... just checked it out... but I came to find... that the prima study guide is.... not coming out until September 21st... :disappointed:
Id go for... EB's Strategy guide... well.. incase I might just buy both LoL... well EB- has an advantage... IT COMES OUT BEFORE... We can all have a chat at the same time.. so we can all post... Maybe I will start another Thread...
The DVD thing also comes loaded with extra features and stuff. My friend is unhappy because he does not have a DVD drive on his computer.
Today in the chat we found out that it's going to take 4 CDs to install the game. Maybe he ought to save up for a DVD ROM. A lot of the new games are coming out on DVD. It's been a big thing in the gaming world. While I only play SC4 and Sims, I still had heard about it and was thrilled that Maxis would put it out in that format. (I hate swapping out CDs when installing, and then trying to keep track of which of them I have to use to play the game!) They did say that to get the DVD you need to preorder (which can be online or in the game stores.) It sounds like they are doing it as a test so that they can see how popular it is. However, I suspect its popularity will increase when people hear how many CDs they'll have to swap out just to get the original game installed. Some people who have DVD ROMs might decide to get it when they hadn't really felt like bothering with it before.
So if I want the DVD version it's ONLY available if I pre-order? Ak! I'm not sure what to do now, I'm not sure WHERE I'll be LIVING at by the time the game is out! I don't want the game to end up somewhere *I* am *NOT* !!! :surprised:
You can preorder it at EB Games for instore pickup. That way it doesn't have to be shipped directly to you, but you can pick it up where you live. (That is unless you move to another city.)
We're moving to another city, about 200-300 miles. Maybe I'll see if I can have the game shipped to my parents house... it'll give me an excuse to come visit them sooner!!
Good idea, sending it to your parent's house. I bet they'd appreciate seeing you too. Or you could get a PO Box in the new city and have it shipped there (if they do USPS shipping instead of UPS). Or one of the PM Boxes (private mail boxes) which do allow UPS shipping.
