    I just had a thought...

I was thinking, what would happen to a sim kid if both his parents died in some horrific accident? Would the kid continue living at home? Or would he be taken away by social services? Or something else?

In one of the chats they explained that a teenager would be allowed to live on its own, but that any children younger than that would be taken away by the Social Worker.

    Bad Memories

I guess that would haunt the teenager for live. And that would make death a huge fear of his or hers.

Okay, thats pretty interesting. if a child got taken away by social services, would you lose hyim or her forever?

I guess so. Maybe you could adopt them with another family(that would be awesome)!!

That's what they said. Once the Social Worker takes them away, they're gone for good. (It's a pity that they don't put them somewhere so that you could "adopt" them into another family. But maybe that was too difficult for the programming.)

It would be great if that child just showed back up in the queue of families waiting to move into houses, then you could select the kid and select which house you want to move him into, like with a relative of the deceased parents...

Well, at least you probably wouldn't be to attached to the children because there so young. But if teens can live on their own, and there are toddlers and children in the house, do the young ones stay casue theres someone who can take care of him or herself?

That was precisely the situation that was presented in the chat: teen and smaller siblings with both parents dead. And they said that the teen could live at home but the siblings would go with the social worker.

Well, it'd be quite sad if you had created several generations of a family only to have both parents die in a fire or something and to have the last decendants taken away into a black hole never to be seen again.

Many many Sim years down the drain. =(

I'd hope if there was an accident so bad it killed off both my sim parents I'd stop myself before Saving the game, and exit without saving so I could start again with the parents still alive and prevent the accident! ...kind of like time travel. ;) :D

I do that all the time in the Sims 1. Especially with the genie in Livin' Large. I always save before I use the lamp, cause it quite often ruins my life!

I think that's why they had some of the spells in Makin' Magic do an automatic save after a spell was done, so that you couldn't "save" your Sim by just leaving without saving. I know that there were times when I did the one converting a pet into a human or a child into an adult where I really wished I could "do over" since I didn't care for how the Sim looked as an adult.

Let's just hope that they don't do that with TS2. I found that "autosave" feature annoying.

I especially used the "redo/back in time" feature when my Sim, who was perfectly happy in their job, would be sent to one I *really* didn't want them to have.

What would happen if the parents died but the grandparents lived in the same house as the parents and the kid? I would think the kid would just keep on living with the granparents but I could b wrong.

They should be able to continue living with the grandparents. I guess that they might have to be living in the same house.

Children taken away by the social worker are "put into a pool where they can be randomly selected for adoption". This quote is from DoctorVu, who works at Maxis, in the last chat at SIMS2.:chinese:

If the child is in a house and the parents die, but there are still grandparents in the house, the children would be taken care of by the grandparents. Im also glad that they dont just delete the child when he/she gets taken away. I wonder if you still veiw that childs family tree even after he/she is adopted? Hmm....
