A question about video memory My family is getting a computer built by one of our friends and i was wondering what the diference is between a video card that has 128 Mb of memory and a card with 256 Mb of memory. Thanks in advace Paul
It depends on the card itself. If everything is the same but the card has 256mb instead of 128mb, it has more display memory. It's "the more the better" if it is the same card usually. However, it they both have 256mb but one is an FX5200 and the other is an FX 5800, then one hs a mediocre card with a large display memory (which it may or may not be able to handle) and the other is a good card. The best thing to do is to see how it compares on a graph with other cards. That way you know more about its overall performance, which is what is really important. On this forum there is a graph which shows this: http://forums.worldsims.org/showthread.php?t=2399 Of course, this presupposes that you have an AGP port instead of just PCI ports. When I was first looking to improve my computer I had been told that any computer sold in the last 2 years would have APG ports. However, I learned the hard way that that is absolutely not true. If all the people who go to The Sims 2 BBS to ask about requirements, a surprisingly large number of computers have only PCI slots. Fortunately, there is a FAQ which shows how to know which your computer has: http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.asp?qid=3994
