    Question.....

Okay, so my friend bought it, im considering playing it, but what i really want to know is do you need friends to advance in your career? i know in the old sim's you needed like 3 friends to get promoted, are there any jobs in the sims2 that dont require friends? just like to know )

I havent seemed to have a problem with friends for getting promoted. It might just be that friends are easier to get, though. Or because i have a romance sim in the house.

well friends was the thing that got me bored of the firts "Sims" and I really hoped that they would have come up with a better system for the sequel and I got a little bit dissapointed when I read that they were keeping the friends system, but I have now played "sims 2" for a while and I must say that friends really isn't a problem anymore, I have maxed out both the military and sports carrer without any problem. The big difference is that it's much easier to get new friends now and also to maintain the old ones.

I like it that now your friends call YOU instead of you having to remember to have your sim call up their friends to keep the friendship going. I was surprised how long my sims chat on the phone when someone calls them though! :D

It bothers me when a friend who you talk to on the phone, calls you and says that s/he is wondering where you are. They can get quit annoying but it is not that hard to make and keep friends. Just takes time and effort.

    Agreed but...

I agree that it is now much easier to make/keep friends in the Sims 2 and that is a good thing but I have, and it is a nitpick, one issue with the phone calls.

When a friend calls you, which happens often enough once you have enough friends, you can only see who exactly called by looking carefully at the bubble that pops up over your sims head when they call. Quite annoying when your zoomed out.

On a related issue it is also hard to know sometimes exactly what ambition goal you get/fail sometimes since they change. It's nice to get the points but I just would like to know what my sim did to get/lose those points.

When you achieve a want (or a fear) it will flash briefly before it changes. You just have to keep a close eye on the aspiration panel.
