greater parties than this? when and how do you get to invite more than 2 people to a party at once? i can only get two to come and they only come sometimes... also, how many types of parties are there?
When you throw a party you get the option to pick up to 8 guests to invite. You do actually have to select them and move the names into the invited list. How many bother to turn up depends on (a) how much they like the sim who invites them and (b) how good your sim's rep for having good parties is (throw a duff party and your rep nose-dives!) There are 3 types of party that I know. Birthday, wedding and just a party party. OK?
Also, once you realize not many people are showing up, you could try just calling people off of your friends list manually one by one and asking them if they wanna come over.
Also, you may want to wait until the weekends to have your parties, just so more people may be off of work. The best way to see other sims' work schedules is to actually go to the lot of the sim that you want to invite and check their schedule. I know that would take a while because loading times between the neighboorhood and lots is horrendous, but it may be worth it to get a great party rep.

I have never been able to invite 8 people to a party either. The most I have ever been able to invite is 2. And at the time of the party I had something like 15 friends and 5 best friends.
Getting people for the party To throw the good party you need the following things: 1) Entertainment. A big radio or plasma screen TV are good. Bar also a plus. A pool and hot tub are big winners. Anything with good fun rating. 2) Booze and food. Lots of both. Champagne, cakes, banquet, food from someone with a huge cooking skill. Pick 1 or 2 family members who just basically cater. NOT the one who wants to have the party. 3) Environment. A crappy place = a crappy party. Hang pictures. Get classy furniture. Buy plants for guests to vomit / urinate in. Guests pissed off at your Art Wrecko decor will not have fun. 4) People. This may be your hardest part--packing in the guests. Here's the trick. Invite over 2 or 3 people. After they arrive THEN call the party. Invite the people who are already at your house. Shazam, instant party. Follow these four steps and your parties WILL improve. Oh, one last thing, make sure the person who calls the party socializes with as many guests as possible. Make sure the host is energized and relaxed before guests show.
I just had my first party..that timer thing makes you a nervous wreck! lol Mine turned out okay..it wasn't a bust or the event of the year. Thanks to suggestions here I at least managed to keep it from being a flop. It was hard! I think everyone but me had a good time. :nervous:

The amount of guests you can invite depends on your PC's hardware. Slower or normal PCs will have the 2 guest minimum, and very fast PCs will have the 8 guest maximum. There is a cheat if you'd like to invite more guests (it has to be used in the neighbourhood screen though -intProp maxNumOfVisitingSims 8
