Lag!!! peeps i finally got my gmae to work but it is so LAGGING!!!!.when i go to zoom in or out it takes like 5 seconds for it to respond and its no just nearly all of it i tell it to do 1 thing but it takes for ever to respond . her is my specifications on me comp: 1. windows xp proffesinal 2. 512 mb ram 3. total hard disk space: 37.2 gb 4: free hard disk space: 33.9 gb 5. sims2 cd version 6. directX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) 7. chip type : ATI RV100 (QY i any1 can help thanx
It would help to know what kind of processor you have and how many mhz or ghz it has, as well as the name (not just the chip type) of the graphics card. Without those two critical pieces of information, your helpers are hamstrung.
Yes, your game chugs. A quick perusal of what system specs you deigned to give us reveals that your video card, an "ATI RV100", would appear to be the ATI Radeon 7000 VE. It's a PCI card. The standard model appears to carry 32 MBs of VRAM. This card was crap back when it was new in about 2002. It ain't gettin' any better. You need a new video card.
hell, from the sounds of it, that card makes my onboard graphics look like an ATI 9800. lol. now thats saying something.
I agree with ManagerJosh. Getting more memory is the best option. I myself had only 256mb until today. Before I installed the extra 512mb, taking my total up to 768mb, Sims 2 used to take ages to load up (and i mean like i could go grab a snack waiting for it to load!), would stutter like mad when zooming in/out or when the game loaded in new animations. Now I have 768mb of ram the game flies! Takes under 2 mins to load (before it was more like 6 - 8 mins), there are no more long pauses/stuttering when zooming in/out or when new animations are loaded. My guess is because the game is now using the physical memory rather than the much slower windows page file. I would have thought 512mb to be sufficient though, so maybe the video card you are using figures in this too?
His video card is CRAP, and I mean crap. I don't think any amount of memory will entirely abolish the stuttering. The man needs a new video card. At least he *HAS* an AGP slot. I recommend upgrading to, say, a Radeon 9800.
OOOOOOOhhhh a Radeon 9800... I want one of those. lol I have a Geforce Fx5200 and although its only a budget card, it runs The Sims 2 great. The only time frames per sec drop is when there are particle fx on screen, like some one taking a bath (the steam). Neighbour hood screen runs slowish too (about 15 - 20fps) but its still playable. Maybe it would be worth investing in one of these, depending on the budget you have: Budget range - Geforce Fx5200 or Radeon 9200 Mid Range - Geforce Fx5600 or Radeon 9600 (if you can find one, the 9500 is actually better than the 9600!) Top range - Geforce Fx5900 or Radeon 9700/9800 A WORD OF CAUTION - If you are going for the Geforce range of cards then stay away from XT cards, or if its the Radeons you are going for then dont go for the SE cards, these offer less features and slower clock speeds than the normal counterparts. However, the Radeon XTs are the top range cards and are great buys. Also, if buying a top end card, ensure that your power supply is up to the required amount for the card you are buying.
i'm running a P4 3.06 gz with a gig of DDR ram and a puny-arse Geforce 440 MX if it weren't for the supporting hardware being so great, the game'd be having a lot more trouble than it is now. right now it runs smoothly, until you try and move the camera any, then it slows down to about 5 FPS the only graphic tweaks i really have are the texture quality at it's highest, and the model quality to high, everthing else is either medium or low i need a new card as well
I'd recommend waiting for the midrange Geforce 6 or Radeon X cards to appear - there is a HUGE performance increase between the GFFX/Radeon9 and GF6/RadeonX. In some cases, the new cards are over double the speed of all but the most powerful cards of the previous generation - take a look at these benchmarks. If you aren't willing to shell out $300-$400US for one of the high-end cards, which is easily understandable, wait for the low- to mid-end versions of those cards to come out.
You're downfall is in two places: FSB and the GeForce 440. It bottlenecks exactly at the video card, and the front side bus.
O.........WELL LOOKS LIKE I'LL BEING GETTIN A JOB DEN IF ITS GONNA BE THAT MUCH .OR I COULD JUST BEG FOR A NEW VIDEO CARD THANX ANYWAYS GUYS
