    Grayed out options.

I went into video and gameplay/camera options, and found that the Spcial Events camera thing, and the smoothing option were both grayed out, and thus I cannot turn them on. I was wondering if any of you had any answers?

I'll bet your video card is a GeForce4 MX 440... it's an incompatibility with the card.

If the game concludes that your video card sucks, certain options, like holding actual parties, and graphical enhancements, are permanently disabled.

Wait, a card that can't use antialiasing? Good God that must be an old card...

Cards have been able to do antialiasing for some time, but only a few cards can actually do so in a manner which doesn't suck nuts. TS2, being that it thinks it is smarter than you, has taken it upon itself to tell you when it thinks your video card sucks nuts, rather than letting you make the game chug horribly yourself.

I find this to be a continuation of a generally distressing trend that has taken hold, where modern computer software assumes the user is incompetent, often rightly so, but neglects to include a manual override so that people who are not idiots can disregard warnings, which are obviously intended for the weak and timid, and do as they please, accepting the consequences of their own actions.

I mean, just look at Windoze. They simply won't let you delete or modify files that are allegedly in use by another program. Yes, it's quite possible that doing such a thing could potentially cause undesirable side effects, such as crashing, malfunctions, and other erratic behavior in the affected program. And sometimes, we honestly don't care, or even want this to happen. In Unix, you're free to do this. If the program malfunctions, well, that's just too bad. Windoze won't even let you try, because it thinks it's smarter than you.

Yes, computers have become more advanced, but for those of us who have worked with them for a long time, the fundamental truth is obvious to us: Computers are stupid. They are good at doing dumb things quickly, but you are still smarter than the computer.

That reminds me of a screen I took a while ago. I was poking through windows, when I found a "guide" for those new users of computors, and Windows XP. I started the guide (moving graphics, and a british man and lady that spoked s-l-o-w-l-y about Windows XP many 'advantages' and how 'easy' it is to use). I just sat there and watched and laughed by myself. Until Windows Explorer, which I had running in the background, crashed, and I got an error.
    Then I exploded in laughter.

Well, HelloKit, you were dead on with the video card thing...which is unfortunate. But thank you all anyways for your help, at least now I know the problem.
