What are you trying to do? Play the game? Only CD1 needs to be inserted to play the game. If you can't INSTALL the game, however, that is bad.

I blame EA and their ridiculous copy protection. It's times like this that it pays to have friends in low places.

You're blaming EA for this, blaming EA for that. One of these you cant prove, one is something that all companies do. And ripping games is against the copyrighting of all companies that have common sense.

I can't prove it yet, but I'm sufficiently suspicious, based on their lousy track record, and suspicious change to the previously existing system.

And just because everyone does it, it's suddenly a good idea? That's NOT an excuse. The system doesn't work, and as demonstrated, only annoys people who paid for the game in the first place.

Err...I'm not sure I understood what you said there. Come again?

I blame my pc for me downloading crack. The pc I had before this one (which works perfectly though, so now I don't need cracks) was old and tired, but the physical cd barely worked good enough to install the game. And it certainly didn't read playdiscs for hours and hours of gameplay. So to some games I downloaded cracks, because otherwise, I wouldn't been able to play at all.
That was a solution I had to make.

Right, well, you know the saying: Strike any user to continue.

I know that if you have CloneCD or somesuch, you need to disable "Hide CDR Media" through the tray icon, regardless of whether it is running or not. You could also try reducing the speed of your CD/DVD drive by disabling DMA Mode, which may work in some situations. To do so:

    1. Open "System Properties" by rightclicking My Computer and selecting Properties.
    2. Go to the "Hardware" tab (this is assuming WinXP by the way).
    3. Open "Device Manager".
    4. Expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" in the main window.
    5. Doubleclick "Secondary IDE Channel".
    6. Under "Advanced Settings" tab, set both Device 0 and Device 1 to "PIO Only", OK/Close everything.
    7. Try playing the game again.

Take note that PIO is FAR slower than DMA, only more reliable, so use DMA whenever possible. Also, if your CD/DVD Drive seems slow for some reason, make sure it's set on DMA mode - my DVD burner always defaults to PIO whenever it's installed for the first time.
