Ok, so I love this game, but I found very quickly that i am incapable of raising children in the game.. it just takes too much time, and nannies are useless... so, when my sims have those occasional children without me having a choice.. I let the child suffer until social services comes and gets them. I dont use cheats, so this is the only way I have of dealing with the child. I suppose I could just use the moveobjects cheat, but im being stubborn.

But why are you being like that? Why don't you go ahead and take care of the sim baby until they are toddlers then call the nanny because the nannies don't help you when the sim baby is a baby but she does help you when the toddler is a toddler.

So are Sims able to get pregnant without using the "try for baby" option? I didn't think they could. Geeze!! Maybe we need to ask for some Sims birth control pills or a vascetomy kit from Maxis! LOL

That's strange. I've never gotten a baby from a regular WooHoo. Hell, it's hard enough sometimes getting a kid through Try for Baby. Your Sim must be WooHooing pretty darn much, assuming that's even possible.

I did it once, but it wasn't exactly on purpouse. I mean, it was on purpouse to mistreat the child: One of the many families in my neighbourhood is a pair of callous psychopaths. But the kid was supposed to starve to death, not to be rescued by the SS.

Err....so why do you have children, then? Sims don't have children unless you select "Try for Baby". No amount of regular "Woohoo" appears to produce children, so it's not like you can spontaneously get children.

The moveobjects cheat does nothing about children. Deleting the babies just makes them reappear by the mailbox next time.

Nannies aren't any better with toddlers, either. They can't teach the toddler any skills, and their habit of randomly grabbing the poor child and forcefeeding bottles down its throat does not change at all. Toddlers are slightly more capable of defending themselves from the depredations of the insidious nanny, since the toddler can be selected and cancel actions, but the nanny is still no better. If I were a Sim, I'd sooner abandon my child in the woods to be raised by wolves, than entrust it to the berserk nanny.

I have one family that keeps having a ton of children only to have them taken away by social workers. Since I found out that the "Adoption" option can give you kids that were taken away I've been mistreating them often.

That is true but the nanny I have in the games do more then that! She feeds them(putting the toddler in the high chair), change their dipers, and bathes them! That's all she is suppose to to teaching them skills is on you about them being potty train, walking and talking you can't possibly think the nanny is going to do everything! If you do then why even bother with getting married or having a baby

I am cracking up here ? I have to admit that its a chore but very rewarding if you plan how to take care of the baby sims what i do is i keep one adult sim at home and the other at work and between the maid and the adult sim and the other coming home you can manage the growth process unless you got a full house of sims pulling your brains out lol ' also as the toddler approaches being a teen the added help becomes more i think i raised 5 sims babies that way and then youl really see some genectic game play going on the programers really cheer that but if you balance your house hold raising those babies are not bad , The nanny is a joke your house will blow up with problems big time someone will figure out a way to fix that wasted sim lol"

No, not at all! Look at me...

I like the baby stage. In toddler phase, because the nosie they make once they wake up and want to get out of the craddle, I just let them cry I don't even use nanay in some games. In fact, they just grow up as usual. I do not know the actual "long term" impact once they get into teen and adult. However, if you have the patience to play the game, you will make the father train the toddler to walk, it takes a while. Next, you get the mother to do the same. Then the toddler can walk by him/er-self even in the first day of their toddler life:)! Amazing isn't it? I suppose you will do a bit of play and cuddle when they were in baby stage.

Honestly, you are not evil at all. Sometimes, I just stray the baby and the toddler. I even walled up a toddler. But even so, the Social Service can get the kid out, quite incredible isn't it? If you are sick of their noise and trouble, you just make them crawl to a stove that is on-fire. S/he will catch fire and then, the reaper will come...:angry:

I am a bit surprised by so many different experience in inter-action between nanny, baby and toddler.

I suppose it has something to do with which neighbourhood you are playing with really. Talking about Pleasantview for instance, nany does a few more things than probably it should. When the baby requuires no attention, the nanny does everything except a maid that doesn't do. Cleaning, Making Bed, Disposing Bottles..etc. Then she would automatically, attend the baby, Changing Dapier, Feeding with Bottles and Holding the Baby. But one thing that she doesn't do is Batheing the Baby, I wonder why that is??

So the nany is not as wasted a sim as it sounds like.

Back to the topic, what I do is also the same like eastbay says. You will keep one Sim dedicated to the job of baby-sitting. You may want to hire 2 nannies to take care of the baby if the parents are to work. But once the kid gets into toddler, you can't really avoid to quit the job and look after the toddler yourself. In fact, the earnings is not that important is it? Currently, I am playing a family, both parents are created from scratch. The baby just turned toddler. I was hoping for a twins but the experiment failed. Anyway, I don't know what I am going to do with these 3 Sims, but I would like to see the father getting to the top of his Medicine career and get some bonus reward from his career.
