Sim Apartment? I was thinking lost night about how best to store my extra offspring until such time as they either met someone they could settle down with and become a focus family for playing or just to keep their friendships and family ties intact. I know I could move them onto blank lots with a wall with a phon and just leave them their, but I thought it would be cooler to build apartment complexes for them. Why not have a house that is actually multiple separate living areas? Then the question became, what happens to their family trees and names if they "move in" with other sims on that lot? If Marlies Sigvaldsen moves in first and then asks Emmanuelle de Vaux to move in later, does Emmanuelle become Emmanuelle Sigvaldsen even though she's not marrying Marlies just rooming with her? Does Emmanuelle's family tree alter? I can't imagine that it should unless she marries/joins with Marlies. If Emmanuelle moves out, does she get her old last name back if it changed when she moved in? What about the guys? If Nikos Tassou moves in and becomes Nikos Sigvaldsen, will he regain his old last name when he marries? How does all that work?
Sims keep all family ties intact when moved out or in, rest assured. The invitee's surname will be kept as well, although the lot will still be referred to as the inviter's family at lot info and loading screen.
Yes. More precicely, a house will keep the name it's given when a it's first taken into use for as long as anyone lives there. Even if noone living there have that surname anymore. Also, it's true that both in a couple getting married gets the same surname. However, it doesn't have to be the same name as the house, and it doesn't have to be the man's name if it's a heterosexual couple. I'm pretty sure that the active sim, the one you click the marrige button with, is the one who get to keep her name.
Well, that's a relief! Now, I can build some "projects" in my hood to hold my random single sims. They can be moved in, get a job, and promptly be forgotten about until such time as they become necessary for soemthing.
