When you get bored by your Sim... I have got this game recently. It is an interesting experience though I found it a bit ordinary at the beginning. Usually, I use the Pleasant View or the Verondale Neighbourhood, trying to ignore Strange Town because I am just not used to it. If you know about any third party Neighbourhood, please tell me where I can download them from. To my surprise, the game allows much flexibility. You can create your own house rather than buying those already in the neighbourhood. This is a plus because single storey is better to manage somehow. Normally, I create my own character. A male sim in almost every game I start new. After so many games now, I am beginning to realise that you can abandon your sim and create another new sim in the same neighbourhood. That way, I find it less boring. Besides, I do not need to rely on the stock AI sims all the times. But I wish there would be more objects to choose from. For instance, carpet is one of the very few I can think of. I like my living room to have a carpet upon which sofas, coffee tables, TV sets sit. And how do I add a window? I can select a window, but it just won't come up when I try to fit it to the wall of the house . If you would point me to some sites where I can download additional objects I would appreciate very much. Also, please let me know how do I use the build option to build window, doors...etc. Thanks in advance. Lex
Many of us are looking forward to the special tools which Maxis is hoping to have for us (such as a Homecrafter-like tool which would let us make wall coverings, floor coverings, roofs and the like, and possibly also "designers textures" for the objects that have multiple color choices.) We're also looking forward to an object making tool. Early on Maxis was talking about having a tool which would use either the regular Maya (with white papers) or MayaPLE (the free stripped down practice version of Maya) to make new objects. However, later they suggested that they would rather make one which is not dependant upon a specific 3D graphics program but would be "program independant" like Body Shop. Recently Maxis has said that they have some tools in the works, but they have not been specific about them. They unfortunately learned from their experiences in putting out the BAT for SimCity4 that fans get nasty when they are told that something is coming and it doesn't come fast enough for them. So, they have to be nonspecific to avoid the fan rudeness. (Better to give it to us as a surprise than say it's coming then have to put it off by even a couple of days to get it right.)
That's because it's not actually happening. There's no proof that it is, and given Maxis's past history in TS1, where the object tool they had mentioned never actually materialized, it's safe to say that until there's substantial evidence that such a thing EXISTS, you can classify this into rumors at best, outright lies and propaganda at worst. Lies and propaganda, I tell you. They're nonspecific because it doesn't exist. Don't give in to their tricks! Be rude about it anyway, just because they lied! Like the so-called patch, which was announced OVER A MONTH AGO, with absolutely no evidence of even its EXISTENCE, this object tool is so much Maxian vaporware.
In my opinion, the most fun is to create your very own neighbourhood from scratch and let it grow and prosper. Click the icon to the right, and you will move on from the three premade neighbourhoods to three blank ones, ready for you to create. And if you delete strangetown (or veronaville or pleasentville, just pick one of the three) then your own neighbourhodo will be on page one so you won't have to scroll. Carpets exist. Go into design mode and look at floors. there's a entire carpet section. Dunno from your description what's wrong. I assume that you are in design mode and that you can build other stuff. Maybe you tried a wall that was blocked by something.
Xenu I am getting a bit confused. I have tried creating a completely new neighbourhood. I made only 1 house for my 1 sim created. Amazingly, as usual visitor comes to visit my sim! Where do they come from? I have created only 1 house and 1 house only. When I create a new neighbourhood, I only have houses to add but no parks, no entertainment complex ...etc like those from the neighbourhoods which come in from the game. About adding windows...I went into Build mode. Windows are available but after selecting the one which I want to add, unlike in Buy mode, the windows I selected doesn't appear for me to put onto the wall. Can you walk me through the steps what mode which buttons I should hit before I get the window out from the list?
Every neighborhood gets an automatic number of Non Playable Characters (NPCs) ... like the mailman/girl, newsboys, maid, gardener etc ... plus some NPC sims who come visiting eg Meadow Thayer. There are some community lots (parks, stores, etc) among my stuff (follow link below) ... or just search the Sims 2 exchange.
When selecting a window (or door), usually another box will pop up that has the window shown in a few different colors. Choose the color that you'd like the window to be by clicking on the picture, and then you should be able to move your mouse over to a blank wall and place the window. The window will be completely red until your mouse moves to a space where it can be placed. If you're already doing that and it's still not working, there only thing I can think of is maybe you're going too fast. Sometimes when I click on an object and move my mouse away too fast, it doesn't register and I have to click on it a couple more times before it shows up. And if you're starting a new neighborhood, in order to have community lots you'll have to either build one yourself or download some from the exchange @ TheSims2.com like Mirelly suggested. You should try making your own to see if you like it, it can be fun. Just lay down a blank lot and mark it as "Community" instead of "Residential", and then you can enter the lot and build away
Thanks for the information. After reading the site's information, I know what my problem is. I am using Game Jackal. It learns the way the game runs, and I do it with Game Jackal's image executable. According to the site's FAQ, this won't work. You have to run the game with the CD inside the CD-ROM. The formal way so to speak. I have no problems now. And thanks for the pointer, I have the community lots. Cheers! Lex
