    Inviting the Headmaster

How does this actually work? I haven't tried it at all, and all I know so far is that you invite the headmaster to try to get your child into a private school. What are the benefits of a private school? How old does the child have to be to even be considered? An explanation to the whole headmaster thing would be much appreciated. :)

Having a child go to private school actually accelerates their skills accordingly and even as far as makgin them spend less time at school and doing homework.

This is false: Private school has no effect on the length of the school day, nor on the length of time it takes to complete homework. It DOES have a slightly lower fun drain, but this does not affect the length of the school day, nor does it have a direct effect on homework completion time. Public school random events pay money, whereas most private school events give skillpoints, which are generally more useful. However, these are essentially chance cards, and you are not guaranteed to get any, either way. Being in private school has no effect on the rate of skill gain normally. Private school teens may enter a teen job at level 2 instead of level 1, which gives them a step up on being an "overachiever" for those who want it.

I think once the child starts going to school you can invite the headmaster, and i think you do that by calling from the phone ( i am not sure if you were aware of that or not) and i think ( i havnt tried it yet but have heard) that you should have a sim with a high cooking skill points and they make a really god dinner like turkey or lobster. and then you need to show the headmaster around the house and the house should be well furnished so that he enjoys it then if he enjoys himself and the kids have decent grades they get accepted...at least thats what i have heard

I'm quoting word for word from the Prima Guide:

Private School differs from public school in that:

~Private school students starting a teen career track begin at level 2
~Hours for teens are from 9-1. Children get out at the standard 3.
~Performance rewards for Sims in private school are skill increases rather than money.
~Spending the day at private school has less of an effect on Sims' needs. Thus, they return home less depleted than if they were in public school and more prepared to start an after-school job. Comfort is actually replenished instead of depleted by going to private school.
~Private School studends wear special uniforms.

I will say this, a child who has more skill points in logic and creativity does finish their homework faster, and it is easier to get a child to do their homework if they have their other needs met, so in theory, they can get their homework done faster. I have seen this happen with my sims who attend Private School.

Private school does NOT get out earlier than public school, and this is from the game itself.

    True.

This is true also, but it is NOT different from public school. School for teens, public OR private, it does not matter, is *ALWAYS* 0900-1300, and for a child is ALWAYS 0900-1500. This is not a difference from public school. Either the guide has mislead you into believing that this somehow differs from public school, or the guide is wrong. Not surprising, Prima Guides are usually worthless.

Mostly true: There's one event that still grants money that doesn't change.

These both appear to be true.

This is false. Homework is always done at a fixed rate of 3% per update interval, +3% if the child is being assisted with his homework, and +3% if he has already been taught to study. Older siblings do not complete a child's homework faster than the child doing it himself would, nor do any in-game skills other than being taught to study by an older person have any effect on the rate at which homework is accomplished. If any of this information is specifically stated in the guide, it is false. If this is something you've come up with on your own, it is an illusion. All of the figures above are taken directly from code dissection as of 1.0p1, although it does not appear to have changed.

Homework will be done as long as a child is in green mood and no needs are critical. The exact value is unimportant, as long as no need failures occur.

Private school homework does not differ in any way from public school homework. Private school does not grant any bonus towards doing homework, other than reduced need drain during school hours, but this is not really a direct bonus towards actually doing homework.

I'm sorry, JMP. I was just repeating what the Prima guide says, and then giving my own experiences. I was in no way disputing the time issue. I was just trying to defend Josh's comments that they finish homework faster. I'm sure you with your extensive knowledge and playtime is much more than mine or anyone else's here, and we should all just take your word for it.

What are you apologizing to me for? I'm just doing the point-by-point refutation-by-facts thing, where I take each of the points you mentioned and either confirm them as being true, or refute them as being false.

Last night I was running a fever and so wasn't quite in good humor, and you missed the sarcasm in my writing. I know that you don't mean it that way, but personally I take offense when you say that something I write in a post is "Fasle". To me, when someone says what I am saying is "False", I take it to mean they are accusing me of lying.

I know what you mean Kristal, it is a little grating sometimes, and by 'it' I do not mean specifically JMP, so please do not think I am calling you grating Mr. Pesc. What Mr. Pescado was doing was talking inpersonally and analytically about the facts which you presented to him. When he concludes that some of them were false, he is not saying anything about you as a person or a teller of truth, lies or whatever, he is simply evaluating the information which you posted. It is often difficult to seperate oneself from what one says, which is why it is easy to feel offended when someone says something to contradict what one has said; I feel this all the time. However, as JMP indicated in his inpersonal language ("true", "false", "point-by-point refutation-by-facts"), he was evaluating your information in light of the information available to him; when the information available to him conflicted with your information, and he felt that his information was based on stronger evidence ("the figures above are taken directly from code dissection as of 1.0p1"), he would conclude that your information was false. That is not to say you are false, it says nothing about you at all beyond the fact that previous to his enlightening you on a subject, you were mistaken about something, which I doubt he takes to be indicative of anything negative in your character.

Sorry to intrude, I just thought I might be of help :).

To get back to the "how" part of original question:

You do indeed have someone from the household phone and invite the headmaster over. He always comes by at 5h00 PM. If you call before that, he will come the same day, otherwise he will come the next day.

You are judged on three different elements: Food, house, schmooze. If you get enough point in one, you can practically forgo the others.

Food: Shortly before his visit, or during his visit, have your sim with the highest cooking skill prepare something that he/she will succeed at. It's more important that it not be burned than it be lobster or turkey. I've successfully had my kids admitted on a spaghetti dinner. The better the meal, the more points you will get for it.

House: Made sure that your house is tidy. Earlier in the day, put all books away, clean everything that can be cleaned, remove all weeds and dead flowers, pick up old newspaper, etc etc.. anything that gives negative environment score.

Soon as he arrives, have a sim greet him at the door. Start to chat with him right away. You'll discover that he doesn't like you to start with schmooze right away. Pick chat about work to begin with, that always seem to go over well. Concentrate on building relationship points and successful conversation.

When you've chatted successfully for a while you can either call him to dinner (choose entertain and select call to dinner) or show him around the house. To show him around the house click on entertainment and then (I think ) give tour. Walk to a room in the house, the headmaster will follow. Click on show room. He'll make a comment. Show him 3 different rooms.

Once you are done with the tour, have him eat, if it's not already done. The order is not important. If you need more points you can try chatting him up some more. If your score is sufficient, you can just ignore him, once the timer runs out he'll announce that he find your family worth.

Oh and be prepared afterward to have him phone and bug your sims incessantly, as he now considers himself a friend.

The 3 different areas are determined by how well you do them. A turkey dinner made by a max-out cook will give you a lot of point, a spaghetti dinner cooked by a middling cook will give you less. A "rich" house will give you more points, a poor house less. If you really excel in one area, it's sometimes enough to give you a winning score on its own. However it's false that you have to have a maxed out cook, or a house filled with expensive items. I got the Beau family intro private school with no Problems, even though they were still living in a trailer and none of them cook very well.

Oh, and try to make sure you don't leave him alone for even a second until your made your score, otherwise he might start playing video games, or chess or whatever and you can't interact with him anymore.

I have the best luck when I have one sim with high Charisma points act as "Tour-Guide" and one with high cooking and cleaning skills cook dinner, tidy up, etc. Also, before 5 o'clock, use the move_objects on cheat to clean up your yard and house. Make sure any bills that are oustanding are paid. He won't even come into the house if you have unpaid bills in the mailbox or papers on the sidewalk! And He hates weeds in the yard, so delete those too. And dirty bottles and cups and pizza boxes inside.

It also helps to have the child who may be attending meet the headmaster and tell him a joke or some other type of interaction. Or the child can give him the tour of the house.

Don't let him NEAR your hot tub! He'll never leave! LOL

Actually you get a bonus if he uses the bathtub, but you have to score your points before he gets in there, because as Kristal said, he never leaves

I've gotten kids in feeding the headmaster charcoal, so not burning it is not actually a requirement. Food is risky, however, as if you depend on it for points, sometimes the headmaster will eat your food and give you no score anyway.

This is, strictly speaking, not necessary. Environment score only matters if you plan to use that room in your tour. Otherwise it can be utterly trashed, and nobody will care.

The acceptance or rejection of a schmooze is based on the interest levels your schmoozing sim has. Higher relationship points open up different schmooze options. The current relationship state has little or no effect on the success or failure of any given schmooze, it is primarily interest-based.

The headmaster will terminate the tour automatically once he has seen 40 points worth of rooms. To get the most out of your tour, keep him just under 40 points, and then show him the best room, generally worth about 15 points or so, to launch yourself into the 50-point tour range.

In post-patch versions of TS2, the headmaster has been known to self-invite himself when called as a friend, or if he calls you as a friend, starting the headmaster scenario all over again. This can be good, bad, or completely pointless. The Phone Hack fixes this.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but don't at least one of your children have to have an A+ grade before he'll even come in the house?

Also on the H/master subject, I keep having problems with the H/master coming round, I cooked Lobster & he wouldn't eat it, and once you've called him for dinner I found I couldn't get him to eat, even if I got everyone else to sit down and eat, he'd rather play that bingo game thing!

On other occasions I'd ring him up, 5pm would come round, but he wouldn't!!!

This was all in my hack free Legacy challenge (around 8th generation) house!

I had the headmaster over for dinner, and he got playing darts... I had move_objects on, and deleted the dartboard. He disappeared with it, and wont' come back! when I call the headmaster, he has changed, and never shows up when 5 O'Clock comes around... any suggestions? Maybe re-copying the NPC file would help, but I can't find it... :(

Yeah deleting an object that's in use will always disappear the sim concerned. It's a cracking way to lose an annoying nanny ... :p

You'll need to move your fambly out of that house and demolish it with a small but deadly nuclear bulldozer because the game will forever be convinced that the headmaster is still at the house. This will effectively allow the game to reallocate a new headmaster to that fambly ... well it will as soon as you move them into a new house

The correct ettiquette ... urrr .... etiquette (yup that's the ticket! ;)) for stopping a visitor from doing something you want him to stop doing is to use the "shoo" option ... note that shooing causes the shooed sim to move to another room thru the nearest available door ... in the headmaster's case that might just cause the silly old buffer to spot something even more fascinating ... never let a HM get sight of a swing for instance! :D
