    Body Shop and files

I was wondering if it's possible to load files for Body Shop that are located in a different folder than the default Sims download folder. I have downloaded tons of skins and eyes and hair styles but I rather not have them cluttering my game. I assume that when you package a character the relevant files will get included in the package.

Well no one ever answered my thread, probably because very few read this particular sub-forum LOL.

Anyway on the remote chance that anyone is interested, I'll answer my own question. Looks like Body Shop uses the eagames\sims2\download folder and will create a new one if the folder is absent. I don't know if you can change that path, but I found a relatively simple work around. I renamed my eagame folder and let BS create a new one. I put all the downloaded content into it. When I want to use one or the other I rename the folder appropriately. This allowed me to have 600 meg of customized files not cluttering up my main game. When I create a character, I package it and all the custom files get packaged along with it. I can then import the character into my game.

Some people have two sets of files: one they put into the "download" folder when they are working with Body Shop and another that they keep in that folder when they are actually playing the game. It means moving the file from a separate spot and keeping it updated, as well as your "playing" one updated, but that way you won't have to have the skins in your game, but you'll be able to see them when you want to decide to use them or not.

The idea came up when people were saying that they are having trouble with items that were being uploaded. It was a way to be able to upload houses which were hack free, but still be able to have the hacks in the game when they chose to play.

    This was from Simlogical:
"Various workarounds are being devised, but some of the suggestions would not stop all unwanted transfer. My No Welfare patch is one example of a hack that would not be stopped. My own favourite - and foolproof - suggestion is the following:
    1. Rename your "My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2" folder to "Playing Sims 2"
    2. Start the game up. This will make you a new folder called The Sims 2
    3. Rename your new "My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2" folder, and call it "Building Sims 2"
    4. In "My Documents\EA Games\Building Sims 2\Downloads" place only those 3rd party objects that you know you definitely want to upload with your lots.
When you want to make lots for sharing, rename the folder "Building Sims 2" to "The Sims 2", (or to make sure you don't accidentally lose it in the renaming process, make a copy of it and rename that).

When you want to play your own game, rename your building game folder back to "Building Sims 2" and rename your "Playing Sims 2" folder to "The Sims 2", remembering that you always need to have quit the game before renaming folders in this way."

Hopefully this gives you some ideas.

Timing is everything. Perhaps the people like me who come whenever there's a post here were away like I was. ;)
