    This is hilarious!

I downloaded some community hacked objects that allow you to use community items on residential lots and vice versa. I put in a clothes rack in a spare room and found out that it allowed me to browse and to try on. I then added a counter and a cash register, to see if it would allow me to purchase the clothes. Well soon as I got back to live mode, Michelle the cashier appeared. After I purchased my clothes I sold the rack, cash register and counter back. Soon as I did that, Michelle was freed from her "post" and joined my sims at playing chess, just like a regular guest.

I found the episode pretty funny.

This will also allow me to buy clothes without having to go through the ordeal of going to a community lot. It's not really cheating because I still pay for the clothing, unlike some other hacks out there. (I am trying to play a fairly legitimate game)

Great idea - I think decent sized houses should have this option - personal shoppers surely bring collections of clothes back for celebs IRL, who would pick and choose what they want and return what they dont, being billed later...
A small pity that you have to spawn a cash register sim rather than just have the cash deducted though.

Well that would make Michelle my personal shopper :)

    Online shoping

I'll tell you, computers should allow you to shop from home in TS2. They do in real life. You cannot "Try On" stuff, but should be able to get clotyhes and games delivered. Just a thought.

    Yes, an excellent idea.

I like your idea, but it'd pretty much defeat the point of going to community lots altogether as they are un-EP'd. That's more a criticism of that aspect of the game than your idea though. They definately left community lots WIDE open for improvement in EPs, didn't they?

I hate going shopping to the community lot, I find it a real trial. Takes forever to load, then takes forever to buy clothing (who designed that clunky system anyway), and then takes forever to come back. When my sim come back all her needs are depleted and the whole thing feels like shopping during the Christmas crunch. So I might still use a community lot to meet people, but I rather forgo the shopping part. In fact what I really would like is the ability to shop for clothes online. You'd have an option call shop online on the computer, you'd see the buy clothes menu, pick whatever you want and a nice delivery person would show up a few hours later with your package :)

I'd also love to be able to return clothes. It could work pretty much the same way it does for furniture. Sell it back right away and you get the full price back. Wear it to a party and you only get a portion back.

I completely agree. I'm actually quite annoyed with Maxis about the community lots. They are, as you say, crap. They're a great idea and all, brimming with potential, but pretty much none of it is realised - it's all left for EPs.

Yes, the community lots have left plenty of room for improvement, actually to be completely honest, at this stage, there is room for improvement throughout the whole game, but isn't that the point of EP's? This is what makes us want to get the next expansion, and then the next one and so on, and I have to admit, the maxis ppl have completely sucked me in, no matter what the EP is about, I'll be getting it because regardless of the theme, I know the content is going to improve the game play a hundred fold.
Oh, and the idea of more options for online shopping is great....my sim might be agraphobic you know...they should cater for that. :D (and yes. I do know that you can send other sims out to do the shopping, but my sim might be a hermit too).

I have the same complaints about the community lots. They take forever to load, even longer if I use the cheat to raise the max number of visiting sims. (Sometimes I'll visit and the only people there to socialize with is the shop-workers.) You have to stand forever and watch you sims browse before the game will actually switch to the clothing option.

Well, I've got a whole thread about my problmes with community lots, and I have to say they warrent one too ;).

We shouldn't have to wait for an EP to have community lots that contibute something to the game beyond an excrutiatingly clunky and badly-designed clothes-shopping process. The awfulness of un-EP'd community lots goes far beyond just 'room for improvment'.

i just wanted to put something strange and funny in this thread because i didn't want to start a new thread and it's sorta relevant. anyway, my legacy family is really wacked up right now....sarah, the sim i started out with, is pregnant with her second baby. her first-born, eric, isn't doing too well in school. he's got a big pile of homework waiting for him. but he's still a child, just to let you know. alex is the real reason why the family is a little shaken up right now. he had an affair with marisa bendett(though i don't know why since she's butt-ugly. i guess their signs were compatible. and, no, free will was on, but i did push their relationship along a little. the farthest they got was making out, though). he was doing fine, though. making babies with sarah, then as soon as she walked into the car to go to work, he'd call up marisa and they'd make out on the couch. however, because God(me) willed it so, one day, on an act of pure stupidity, he invited marisa over while sarah was at home, calmly playing some chess. as soon as marisa was in the house, he smooched her! sarah went ballistic! she ran up to him, and slapped him, only to stop in the middle and run to the toilet, because, lo and behold, she was pregnant. as soon as she was done puking, she ran up to alex and slapped him some more, then engaged marisa in a fight! unfortunately, marisa kicked her butt, and she ended up on the floor with a sore bottom and a broken heart. but, alex felt that he had been stupid to have an affair with marisa, so he kicked her out, and asked sarah to forgive him. she would have none of it, however. she was still furious at him, and would not sleep in the same bed as him, and basically avoided him for the next few...hours. then, she felt that she still loved him, and decided that, bit by bit, they would mend their relationship. God is making sure that alex does not call marisa anymore, and this rocky start to their family is over. yes, i meant rocky start, because i'm waiting for the 10 children want to show up, so i can pin it down, and then we'll have a house full of children!! however, there is one problem. sarah is HARDLY making enough money to support the family. i suppose alex will have to get a job as soon as the next baby on the way turns into a child. by then i'm sure at least one teenager will be there. hmm..can adults leave a teenager at home alone?? anyway, so....yeah. oh yeah! also, right now, one of alex's wants is to have a baby(he's a family sim) because i pinned it down earlier, and now, one of his new fears is to have a baby. hmph. fickle men.

I was watching my sims playing chess today. I never noticed before but they are playing a proper game. I don't know if there is more than one game ... but I noticed an hilarious "extra" ... kinda like a Cadbury's Mini Egg for those lucky enough to (a) know what an 'easter egg' is and (b) to live within sniffing distance of Bournville ... Where was I?

Henry is a grouch. No nice points at all. Jordan came calling and she's not horrid at all. They both like chess ... This was when I noticed that grouchy Henry kept going, like :"Hey! Lookit that!" and pointing at something. (A cop bubble-lamp in his thought bubble). Jordan looks around and Henry tries to steal one her pieces ...!!

I also captured the whole thing with another sim on video but it's 1MB ... maybe I'll upload it later if anyone's interested ... ;)

Hehe! Yes, I've heard grouchy Sims can do that, I've never seen it happen though.

Cadbury Mini Eggs have crossed the pond, my dear! :p They'll be in the stores right after Valentines Day! I usually keep a bag in my deskdrawer here at the office and munch on them.

Ohhhhhhhhhh, mini eggs! (My best Homer Simpson impression)

At least we do have a community lot to start out the game. Remember that TS1 didn't have any sort of community lot until Hot Date and you couldn't take your family to meet others until Unleashed.

They need to space it out so that they maintain our interest. If they did everything at once with no reason to do any EPs then the majority of Sims players would get bored and not bother with playing TS2 at all after a couple of months. And since they'd used up all their ideas at the beginning, there'd be nothing to make EPs with.

LOL ... thought they probably would have ... it's a bit hard to check from over here tho' ... speaking of which I must go there and do the whole Willy Wonka thing ... they got a whole Cadbury World thing going on there with with some decidely Oompah Loompahery looking characters. I have a friend who practically lives in Cadbury's back yard ... man you can put on lbs lbs lbs just breathing in her garden! :paranoid: <<==== eh!?

(Sorry folks ... off topic  )
