Important - Unique Object IDs (GUIDs) If anyone clones an object or makes a new one it is important that it has a completely new and unique GUID number, otherwise the game will confuse it with an existing object. If you are not sure whether you have a new object or just a recolour, you can check by opening the .package in SimPe and seeing if you have any Object Data filetypes in your package. If you do, then you need a new number for each one of those. The number should be inserted under the PlugIn View tab for the Object Data where it says GUID If you click on the Get Guid link, it takes you to a special database that will generate a unique number for you. You need to be registered on the database, and if you are not already, that link will help you do so. When you register, you will be allocated a block of 255 numbers that are reserved for your objects. When (or if) you run out of those, I am not sure yet what you're meant to do, I suppose you could reregister as a new person
What I've noticed is that those conflicts seem to make the object either bright blue or black without details. Is there a way to change that number. I have had a fair number of things (especially bed linens and sofas) that have done that. I usually just delete them, but I'd like to be able to fix them. I've tried talking to the person who made the object, but that doesn't seem to help. Even when they say they are "fixed" they often are not completely fixed. (Which is frustrating because it's often the things I've been most attracted to which have that problem.)
I don't think that is caused by anything to do with the GUID. Recolours of existing Maxis objects don't use GUIDs of their own, they are supposed to point to the GUID that the original object already has, and a recolourer won't be expected to touch them. The main problem with recolours that results in what you mention is when someone doesn't do them using SimPe's Object Workshop (and remember to tick the Recolour box, not the Clone box). It's important to use Object Workshop and not just copy a file of someone else's recolour to edit. Object cloners and recolourers should take it upon themselves to check the SimPe site regularly for updates, bugfixes and other news; and to read forums where recolouring tips are exchanged, as problems are often brought to attention informally first.
Thanks for the info. It really makes me wish that there were more hours in the day so that I could do more custom content. (But then I wouldn't have time to actually play.)
