Post any good tips you have for us non-savvy players! well, i just wanted to start a thread where people can post tips that they found that work really well while playing sims 2. here's some that i JUST thought about, since i'm a little slow on the uptake. 1. when playing with a female family sim, make sure that you wait until you can cook meals that really fill your appetite before getting pregnant, since that way your hunger bar at least stays green. also, make sure you have a good bed with plenty of energy points so it doesn't take long to green-up your bar again, and you can concentrate on filling the fun bar, which takes the longest, imo. if your family is on a budget, just buy the expensive bed for now and then sell it after the baby is born. probably by the next time your sim is pregnant, you'll have earned more, and it won't become a cycle. 2. when playing with romance sims, instead of making a regular-looking house, make one room with all the loud, noisy, entertainment and other appliances, and make another room with a double bed, hot tub, loveseat, whatever else you want. this way, you won't have to go far to start romancing a sim once you get friendly enough. also, if you have wants concerning 2 lovers and you want to fulfill them fast, just invite them both over, and then lock up your sim and one lover in one room together, then once you're done, send that sim on his/her merry way and then let the other sim in. 3. when playing with fortune sims, it is best to start out with a completely poor person, because using the cheat won't fulfill his wants, just yours. the easiest way to get rich is by marrying a rich sim, and then the wants will be easier to handle after that. but working your way up is still fun. buy the cheapest stuff you can, and don't bother with a TV and couch, or a roof. what you need are the basics: a bed, a stove, a refrigerator, a counter, (you don't need 2 sinks. just use the one for the bathroom for washing dishes)a table(if possible, buy a 1x2 table and use it for both eating and the computer)2 chairs, a computer, a shower, a phone, a sink...i think that's all. what really bothers me are legacy familes with a foundation, a large 3x3 couch, a TV, a double bed, at least 3 counters, 2 sinks, a bathtub, a roof, wallpaper, carpet, and a 2x1 table AND a 2x1 desk, and they say it's the barest, worst home. 4. also, when making families, if you want to make a family that is poor and will eventually become rich(basically a legacy family, but legacies are about the children and generations, not the money), make only one sim. also with romance sims. don't make any siblings or parents and DEFINITELY not a spouse(unless you want to make a soap opera-like family, which is not bad, because i do it all the time. my dream is to make a neighborhood where everyone is related to each other either by law or blood). ok, i think that's all. after thinking about it, i realized that i don't follow by my own advice very often, but whatever. also, i know that a lot of you probably already know about these tips, but i just thought it'd be fun.
LOL Funny! Umm.. I've found that having a couple where both people have the same aspiration makes things much easier. For example, I have two family sims, so they often have the same wants, and it often has to do with the other person. Therefore, it is very easy to fulfill the wants in a shorter amount of time.
If you want to start off with a couple and make one of their aspirations money then make the other one a knowledge sim so they can get higher up in their carerr faster. good combinations 1. same type together 2. money + knowledge 3. popularity + money 4.romance + poularity 5. romance + knowledge 6. family + knowledge 7. family + popularity these usually work well together! especially if you want a family.
1. It is NOT a waste of time to work on skills. Yes, they can be doing something more interesting, but the payoff for your sim is worth it! 2. Don't burn out by playing all your families the same way. Throw a monkey wrench into their lives once in a while. Don't be afraid to move people in and out of the house, to let their love life just "happen" with little intervention, to every once in awhile, have a tragic drowning or a cheater caught red-lipped. 3. When designing houses, start them small, and remember, you can always build up and down if you run out of lot space. 4. The best aspiration reward: The Energizer. Second place: The Love Tub. Even my broke slacker trailer people can have a nice hot tub if I keep them happy enough.
Also: Don't use any of the money cheats! because it really get's boring when you have nothing to work towards! FIND more creative ways for your sims to have fun other than t.v. and other to learn then books. Take a walk on the wild side let a sim get adopted by aliens and have an alien baby. Try out different careers don't stick to two or 3 cause their better. Do a slacker or a "bad" job for once. Have wide varitey's of appriations.!
how can i get a purebred alien woman? is there any way of downloading one? whenever i get that Pollination guy together with a human, or one of the half alien girls, i always get a half-breed (a human with green skin).
When pregnant and not broke, stay in one 'pregnancy' room: a room with a kitchenette, a dining tabe and chairs, a bed, a computer, an easel and an en suite. This can be easily cobbled together from items you have already if you're not that wealthy. Make the kitchenette and dining area the main (/only) one of the house - this will enable your pregnant Sim to eat well if they're not a good cook, and also to get social from the rest of the family at mealtimes. The computer provides social and fun. The easel provides fun, aspiration-friendly skill-points (most, if not all Sims, regardless of aspiration, like earing points, especially if you make then skill often), and also possibly lovely pictures of your pregnant Sim to hang up around the house. The en suite is especially vital for the leaky bladder of pregnant Sims. The Pregancy Room will become one of your main rooms, as it fulfills all needs in a small area. It can also be easily converted into a baby/toddler room when the sprog pops. Before marrying and knocking up Lucy the maid, I got all my Sims to meditate during pregnancy. Lucy, however, is too playful to meditate, and so forced me to play with a preganant Sim. It is surprisingly fun.
ooh, lotsa of replies!! i was hoping that this thread could be become like a sims 2 bible for all players, regardless of their skill and experience in playing. so, keep the replies coming!!
Oh! No, not especially. We don't tend to get on terribly well together. They are bored by me, and I'm bored by them. I just posted that link because that page is where the legacy challenge originated .
Tip Oh, here's a tip: Wana save some money on repairs? When you have a kid buy a bookcase and have the kid hammer at Mechanical skill when possible. By the time the kid's a teen it can fix any and everything that breaks with little chance of electricution.
Kids and mechanical skill Flameangel agreed: good idea with the kid and electrcity thing!!!! Not only does it save repairman trips, but it gives the kid a huge leap in several career paths. Having a teen with high cooking can also be a big boon, but mechanical is just awesome (no more waiting a full day for the repairman without an appliance or television).
Toddlers Only buy a toddler the pink bunny thing to play with. Charisma cannot be skilled again until the child is a teen and good charisma skills are hard work to come by after the toddler stage cos mirror work doesn't give fun. The other two toddler toys give creativity or logic both of which are fun activiites for kids anyway. Also a toddler can play with bunny without waking anyone.
