Please test on your computer and reply if you can confirm this.

I've ran the sims2 with and without testingcheats enabled in the userstartup.cheats file. (typing it after starting the game doesnt produce much difference)

So far my limited experiment shows that the game has fewer error messages but runs slower without testing cheats.
However with testing cheats, the game has faster smoother performance and a few animation errors. I dont understand this yet so I'm looking for more data.

What is this file? Is this a way to apply cheats automatically on startup instead of having to type them every time? If so that would be really helpful for me. I've searched my computer and don't seem to have such a file... can someone tell me if that is indeed what it's for, and if so, where the file should be and how to use it?

    userStartup.cheat

    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config

NOTE: This file does NOT install off the sims2 CD or DVD. You must create it yourself.

Make a text file in that directory. plain vanilla txt will do just fine. Write the cheats as you would use them in the game. Click File, Save.
Now when you have what you want, right click on the text file in Windows. choose RENAME and change it to userStartup.cheat - windows will warn about changing the file extension - just approve it and ignore the warning. You're doing right.

When I'm able (it's 4 AM Now) I'll edit this post or make a new one, listing which cheats will work in userStartup.cheat
    I use two right now
    boolprop testingcheatsenabled true
intprop (it's the one that sets maximum party guests)

There's a list of which cheats will and will not work in the userStartup file. In general, a global cheat (works on all lots) will work, while a local cheat (only one lot, AGING OFF for example) will NOT work in userStartup.
