Not to burst any bubbles Well I just picked up University about 2 hrs ago and think Maxis did an awesome job. BUT I have a problem, I hope many ppl have the ep by now cause this is a serious problem I am having. Basically my sim can't go to class. It says motivated sims will go to class automaticaly, lazy sims well you have to click on them and a option college should be there and in that option there is an option to go to class. You have to do this within the hr before the sims class starts. I have tried 2 sims and still the same result. My sim failed the first semester, so I didn't save which made me quite sad. Ok this is what i did: I declared a major, checked the time the class starts and clicked on my sim at 3:00(class started at 4) but the only options there were meditate and yoga. Please help me, if not I will email Maxis or EA and see what's up. I did check the game manual but it didn't help much.:(
Well I found the answer on the sims2 forums, turns out that certain hacks will not allow your sims to do various things such as going to class. So I deleted the hacks I had and it is working like a charm. Josh or any other mod, you can close this thread, thanks
We don't close threads arbitrarily just because we feel like it. We'll only close them when they've either outlived their purpose or a discussion has gotten out of hand. Since the discussion hasn't gotten out of hand, and I don't feel this discussion has outlived its purpose, it's gonna stay open since it definitely has potential to turn into interesting discussions.
ok cool, didn't know about that Josh. Some forums have different methods or reasons of closing threads. Well I'm enjoying University very much, no problems to report.
Ohhh, wish I would have read this thread before posting mine. Sorry, guys. Go on with your lives. I will go take out my mods now.
I got rid of ALL my mods and my sims can't go to class! Is there somthing that can get rid of all your mods? incase I missed some. Also the re-setting of game tips isn't available in my menu
The mods which change the .exe are the most problematic (ie global hacks), and aren't handled by removing the mod from the folder. (A faulty save can also corrupt the game.) The only way to handle those is to move your saved game stuff out of the folder and then uninstall the whole thing and reinstall it completely clean. Some things can be put back once you've got it reinstalled (such as Merola64s painting) but the hacks which work directly on the game by changing code will have to be reworked before they can be reinstalled. In the words of Tech help: Typically, this kind of corruption is caused by third-party 'Hacks' or 'Mods' for the game. Other issues that may occur due to such corruption are: The save button doesn't save the game. Clicking on the Quit button will cause the game to Exit without confirmation dialogue. The game speed cannot be changed; the game cannot be paused. NPCs don't have interests. You can't use skill-gain to increase the Grade bar capacity. Sims return from community lots as zombies. Display cannot be changed in full-screen. The Picture in Picture cannot be closed. Buy panel is missing. Build-mode options don't work. New lots cannot be placed; old lots cannot be bulldozed. Cheats are completely disabled.
I must share what did it to mine. Please don't judge me. It was the teen woohoo patch. Once I removed it, my game runs fine. It even runs faster and less jerky. Boy, that should teach me, huh? LOL
LOL, Kristal. That'll teach you. I have to admit to being tempted myself. It's an area of gameplay that I believe I would find interesting and I think it's a darn shame that the morally-vocal (I doubt they are an actual majority ... if there were 10,000 complaints out of 1,000,000 sales that is still only 1%!) dictate the standards for all of us. On the other hand I remain slack-jawed in amazement that the game permits same gender marriage .... I guess the "rules" are not nearly as clear-cut as they seem. :(
I don't think that Maxis are necessarily having their values dictated to them by the "morally vocal" (i.e. the Christian right Maxis are not against love per se, insofar as they are not against love between women and women, women and men, and men and men, but they are against intimate, physical love between people who they percieve to be unable to cope with it based on their age. So, in this specific aspect of the game, they cannot be accused of sexism (i.e., in this context, putting value-judgements on love between different gender-combinations), but they can be accused of ageism .
I don't think Maxis is per or against anything. They are for making profits and against loosing their Teen Rating.. That's it I never got the Teen Woohoo, even though I have about 20 hack in my download folders, 75% of which are by JMP. I don't really care as, in my game, woohoo is for making babies or for getting aspiration points. However I was considering getting it for one reason. I find it very annoying that artificial line between teen and adult where one minute they are head-over-heels and one minute later, after they grow up they are strickly friends. They should be an exception for pre-existing relationships. Maybe an adult couldn't form a love relationship with a teen, but could continue one if one already existed
Despite both teenage pregnancy and same-sex marriage being very provoking topics for the "moral" people out there, perhaps Maxis chose to include same sex marriage in the game because it promotes an more accepting attitude which ultimately would better the world in general. Teenage pregnancies could be viewed oppositely, with the general consensus being that these girls are too young to care for a child and in some cases don't provide the child with the most stable and suitable background for their childhood. There are of course arguments that teenage pregnancy is perfectly acceptable; for example every woman has a right to have a child and the age at which they do so is entirely determinate on the desires of the woman herself. In the same way it could be argued same-sex marriage doesn't provide a stable background for a child in a similar way to how teenage pregnancy doesn't. Whichever opinion you side with it could be hypothesised that Maxis simply chose to include same-sex marriage in the game because it would be slightly less controversial. It would provide a wider appeal from the LGBT community and ultimately would achieve their goal of making more money. I agree with Mirelly in saying that teenage pregnancy would make an interesting addition to the game; but until the people at Maxis think so, we'll just have to make our own alterations. Back to topic: I'm fairly concerned at the way hacks aren't working on the game, since I have such a reliance on them in manipulating my poor Sim's lives. But on the other hand: I really can't wait for this game. Come on March 11th.
Ooh ... and oops. I stirred up controversy again. Actually (back to the topic) I am thinking of getting rid of all the "cheat" game hacks for good. For example JMP's excellent phone hack ... it makes the friend gaining thing far too easy. Maybe he will do a variation for players who just want to control the number of rings. Hacks I wouldn't be be without ... the "no cheer" hack and the "coffee cup" hack. I'm probably gonna start over with a new neighborhood when I get S2U because I actually got bored with all my existing families ... they just have too much money (and that's the one's I didn't use money cheats on! I don't think I ever actually played a family -- for more than an hour or two -- that was built on a money cheat, even in TS1!) and I blame some of that on the ease with which I propelled most of them to the top of their career paths thanks to instant friends via the JMP phone hack. Reminds me of Vacation and how I used to send a sim off to holiday island for a day to make "friends" in the most cringingly deviant manner I could ever imagine (it mostly involved approaching sim-kids and tickling them ... )
Well, just for the record, I downloaded the hack that did not allow teenaged pregnancies, and I downloaded it because I wanted one of my old man sims to hit on his daughters friends. Okay, anyway, I have also read that the inSIMinator is causing a lot of those same problems, too. Maybe we should post a list of hacks and mods that mess up S2U and put a sticky on it?
Kristal I won't judge you because that was the hack that I was using. Game does run better without it and the EP is running great. I don't need any hacks anymore.
Iv'e had these hacks (all of which I have now deltetd) and my game runs better now 1.)insiminator 2.)telescope hack 3.)multi-mirror Where can I get the school and coffee one? What does the coffee one do?
Short answer -- over at modthesims2.com no cheer hack coffee cup manual navigation hack (This one is so sweet I forgto it was actually a hack! :0 )
Keep in mind that all of these hacks are pre-expansion, and while they may visibly appear to work at their intended purpose, may produce complications down the line due to subtle code differences which are not properly reconciled with the new game core. I can't verify their complete integrity until I acquire the expansion pack.
Do you intend to update your hacks JMP ? 75% of my hacks were written by you. I'm not dependant on hacks, like some at MTS2 who are convinced they can't play the game without this or that hack, but yours do make the game less annoying to play.
