Sims 2 crashes after splash screen! 1) CPU (MHz/GHz) : 1.2 GHz 2) RAM/Memory - How Much (MB/GB) : 512 MB 3) Free Hard Disk Space : 1.2 GB 4) Total Hard Disk Space : 40 GB 5) Graphic/Video Card : GForce 2 6) Graphic/Video Card Driver Version : Can't remember. 7) DirectX Version : 9.0c 8) Operating System (Windows? Mac? Etc) : XP SP2 9) Sims 2 CD or DVD Version : CD 10) Nature of problem (more details the better) The sims 2 used to work fine, however whenever I start it up now he splash screen appears for a few seconds and then disappears. Then a red X appears in the middle of the screen with the only option of "OK". Nothing else happens. Tried running the game in compatibility mode, tried renaming the download folder, tried starting from the autorun, clicking on the link in the program menu and also tried double clicking on the sims 2 executable file. Still can't load the game, any ideas please? Thanks, Jane.
No hacks or similar have been installed. Only the thesims2_update.exe Patch, d/l from EAs site. Thanks, Jane
d/l patch 16th February 2005, game ran fine with it. The problem has only started today. Played sims 2 upto Sunday just gone with no probs. Thanks, Jane
Jane I am concerned by the amount of free space you report. 1.2 GB isn't a great deal. Windows always needs a lot of elbow room to run effectively. Have you installed or downloaded or anything else since the last time the game properly? Have you performed a virus scan? What about a defrag? Finally have you made a back up copy of your Sims 2 games in My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/? Whatever else you do Don't Panic! If your game was running to your satisfaction it is almost certainly possible to repair the situation, So be patient with us while we ask lots of dumb looking questions.
Hi, I haven't done a defrag ( I can't see this fixing the problem) but done a full virus check today. Thanks so far for your help & hopefully I will get a solution to my problem soon. Thanks again. Jane
