How would my computer run Sims 2? Please help!

    I have -
    Athhlon 1 Gig
    256 RAM
    Direct X 9
    Win XP
    lots of hard drive space
Rage 128 Pro Ultra video card

I checked my system specs. on 2 programs that check to see if your computer will play SIMS 2. One said it wouldn't and one said it would, so now I am confused. I really want to get SIMS 2, but I can't afford to get any news parts (still paying off my latest upgrades). Do you think it would play all right and what will the play be like? (ie. would it be difficult to play due to slowness, choppiness, etc?) Do you think it is worth purchasing?

    Thanks, Alyson

is it 1GIG or 1GHz processor? Because they are two completely different measurements.

Also, is it 1000+ or something else?

The Rage video cards are usually not up to snuff for playing the game (unless they have come out with a new line of "Rage" video cards since this summer, which I doubt.) Sometimes they won't let you do anything at all including finish the installation. Sometimes they only let you play the game poorly even at the lowest settings.

However, as Manager Josh said, what is your processor?

For the most part, people have found that if they have less than 512mb of RAM, that their playing is not much fun (choppy, freezing and the like, even at the lowest settings.) That can be a problem too.

Frankly, I believe that you would find playing the game on your system frustrating at best (especially if your processor is only 1 ghz. Some people, even with a 2 ghz processor have complained that the game is frustrating for them.) With only 256mb of RAM and a nonsupported video card, the odds go down a lot that you could enjoy the game.

However, you might want to look into upgrading (unless you have a laptop, in which case you wouldn't be able to upgrade it.) Most of the newer games coming out (except perhaps the ones like CSI or other simpler games) tend to require computers which are more like 2-3+ ghz, 512mb to 1gb of RAM and at least a T&L enabled video card, if not something in the middle range of T&L cards, like the Radeon 9800 pro card (which only a year ago was the top of the card ability.)

And the games are likely to require more and more. Sims2 will probably stay at about this level until it's time for Sims3. (That is if it works like it did for TS1, where it needed a pretty good computer when it first came out, but by the time Makin' Magic came out, it was able to even use budget computers.)

It just says Athlon. 1 Ghz.
However I called EA in California, and gave them my computer specs and they told me it should run good.:surprised:

It is my opinion that the game will run, but not at its best performance simply because you lack:

    1) Enough Memory
    2) Proper graphics card.

If you could get one of those addressed (preferrably memory), you should be fine.
