The Amazing Dissappearing Cellphone! I keep encountering a bug in which my sim's cellphones dissappear. After a major life change (such as pledging to a greek society in college or giving birth in the neighborhood home lot) some of my sims lose the ability to use their cellphones. The "Call", "Answer" and "Throw Party" options dissapear when clicking the active sim. Later when I go back to the kiosk to purchase another one it tells me "You already have one of those, make another selection." I don't have any hacks at all, I won't even let my kids download new objects yet for fear of bugs. Has anyone else had this problem? Any way to fix it?
I'm not sure why that would happen to your sims specifically, although the cellphones have been known to go temporarily unavailable if somebody calls you. As for not downloading hacks, my suggestion is that you start doing so, because the core, unedited game is full of bugs and pointless annoyances, and hacks fix these. Naturally, EA can't be bothered to fix their own bugs. They don't even want debug dumps, they prefer just not to fix them.
No offense to the resident hack master intended. From what I've read here, I was under the impression that the Uni pack didn't get along well with hacks yet due to the kernel change, easpecially the ones that sound interesting like the teen pregnancy hack. Besides that, I've been playing long enough that most hacks would make the game seem to easy, almost like cheats. But if you know of any Uni pack hacks that would fix my cellphone bug I'm all ears!
I've actually had this same problem. And I didn't relate the bug to giving birth, but I think you're right. Two of my Sims lost their cellphones after graduation back at the house, and now that I remember, it was around the time they gave birth? The only way I know to get it back is to use the "boolProp" cheat. It's really easy to give the cellphone back if you enable the cheat, and just select "give cellphone", then disable the cheat for those who don't like cheats, or just don't like "boolProp". I did that with both my Sims and all seems to be well.
