Alphastar's Directx Compatibility Issue Hi Alpha. I have created a new thread for your problem. I think it may be quite simple to fix this. But we'll have to take things slowly step by step because I don't want to risk making things worse, OK? Now the clue here is that you say that that dxdiag reports that the Directx features are not available, yes? You did not say if the the dxdiag display tab also confirms what you say about your Radeon display adapter (card). It may not actually be installed. Please check dxdiag again. If this is the case then First make sure you have upgraded Win XP with the latest updates including service pack 2 Second make sure you have got a copy of the latest Radeon driver for your card and that it is easily found (eg on your desktop) Then uninstall the current display driver: Start Control Panel Click Switch to Classic View (in the left hand column ... what can I say? I'm old fashioned ) Click "System" Click the Hardware tab then "Device manager" Click Display Adapters then right click your card and choose Properties Click the driver tab It is unlikely that the driver that windows is using is an ATI Radeon driver (it is more likely a generic driver supplied by windows) Click the uninstall driver button and restard the computer when required (that should be automatic) When Windows restarts it will report that it has found new hardware and will install a generic driver ... let it get on with it. Don't offer it any discs or help. When windows has finished restarting, double click your new driver installer (on the desktop, remember ) and it will install the new AT Radeon driver. Another restart after whcih dxdiag should report all is now hunky dory .... we hope
*YOU*, my friend, are an absolute genious, BUT, so is my boyfriend, lucky for me and we just finished doing exactly what you suggested, right before I came back here to let everyone know. Man, I feel dumb. BUT THANKS!! EVERYONE FOLLOW THIS PERSONS' ADVICE!!
Oh please don't feel dumb. If anyone feels dumb it is me for actually knowing how to do that ... don't ask. It's too embarrassing.
