    editing, building, etc.

    1. I found the neighborhoods "editor" (hah). Apparently, all of these templates were created in SC4. How does one accomplish this and then import the neighborhoods?

    2. Free building a house on a lot. It was my understanding that one could free build a home without the constraint of having to move in a family and wait until you had enough money to build what you wanted. How is this accomplished? Specifics.

    3. Creating objects: How? What programs? What scripts? What filenames/types, etc. Need detailed information. Not interested in a tutorial on how to use adobe or photoshop for creating walls, floors, and skins.

I bought this game primarily on the promise of an object creator kit. I'm as much into editing as I am playing. Not being able to create custom content as promised is bugging me. However, I see that people are doing it so there must be a way. If anyone knows please leave some detailed instrucions on how to get started. Feel free also to drop by my guild irc channel (not sims specific) and chat with me about this. Irc nic is "Gheron", channel is #18thlegion on the gamesurge network.

    thanks

This is a tutorial on how to use SC4 to make neighborhoods. You can also find the information in the Official TS2 (and TS2U) Prima Guides: Neighborhood tutorial Binary Soup

In the neighborhood screen, click on the house icon. It lets you place and enter lots from there. (Details on this are in the manual which comes with the game.)

However, the houses built in that way can be very expensive. You'll have to place a family on an empty (cheap) lot and do the "motherlode" cheat to actually give them enough money to move in and decorate. (Although you can predecorate.)

SimPE is one of the tools used for creating objects: SimPE site
MTS2 has the "Tutorials" (basically, the forum messages are considered the tutorials) as well as hosting the TS2 Mesh Tool and its support: mod the sims 2
Another up and coming tool is DatGen. You can get info and links (if the TSR link doesn't help you) from the first link here:
    DatGen - DBPF File Editor
Datgen - Hosted by The Sims Resource
You can also check out the modding section of WorldSims

Sorry, I don't do IRC or other chats.

Much of this information can also be gathered by using the Search function on the forum.

If you want to get into object making (and you have the resources -- 3D software eg Milkshape ... and the skills) then you would find a warm welcome and loads of help and advice at http://www.modthesims2.com and http://www.variousimmers.net

On the other hand if you have nothing but questions Pescado and chums will probably just ignore you (if you're lucky) or rip your lips off if you're not (lucky :p)
