Do you still happen to have your old computer...? If so, and its memory wasn't wiped, you may be able to retrieve the serial number by going into the game registry. If that option isn't available you'll either have to look around for that missing number, or perhaps buy another CD.
It is not legal to use a "mothercode" to reinstall your game. Anyone giving you that information would be in deep trouble. If you have misplaced your serial number, try one of the methods of retrieval below; o Retrieving Number from Account. Master Accounts, which are product registered accounts on the Maxis User System, must use a serial number in order to be created. If you registered the number for an account, you can "view" your registered number here on this site. To do this, login using the account name in which you registered the number under. (Login on the main page; http://thesims.ea.com/us/index.html). Next, click on the blue "Register" button located at the top of the screen to the left. Click on the link to the left of the screen entitled "add product serial numbers here". Any registered numbers will be displayed on the following screen. Copy that number down. You may wish to use a felt-tip marker to transfer the number onto the actual disk; make sure it is the side with the writing/label on it. o Retrieving Number from Registry. When you install the game, the number used to install is stored in your computer's registry. As long as you have not reformatted the drive, the number should still be there. If you are using a computer that requires "administrative" privileges in order to look inside the registry, you'll need to use such an account. To open the registry, go to the "Start" button, and then to "Run". Type in; REGEDIT Hit "Enter" on your keyboard. Once the "Registry Editor" has loaded, you'll need to click on a few items in order to find the number; -Click on the [+] next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. -Click on the [+] next to Software. -Click on the [+] next to Electronic Arts. -Click on the [+] next to Maxis. -Click on the [+] next to the game you need the number for. -Single-click on the 'ergc' folder. The number will be displayed on the right screen, next to the word "default". Copy that number down. You may wish to use a felt-tip marker to transfer the number onto the actual disk; make sure it is the side with the writing/lable on it. o Contacting Maxis for Replacement. Your last option is to contact Maxis/EA and have them send you a new serial number. You can do this by sending them a Xerox copy of the CD; this being the "top" of the CD, or the side with the writing/lable on it. If you have a scanner, you can scan the CD, and then send the electronic copy to Maxis via e-mail, along with your request, by sending it to this address: warranty@ea.com (this email may no longer be valid. Check http://eatech.custhelp.com for updated information.) Your replacement number will be returned via e-mail as well. You can also send the copy, along with your name, address, request, and contact phone number, to Maxis by mail. Simply send the information to this address; Electronic Arts Customer Warranty PO Box 9025 Redwood City, CA 94063-9025 These are the legal ways to obtain a serial number.
