    dark dark world

    Need help with lights. I've been working on a large home with central courtyard (long wings on four sides) and one entire wing refuses to allow overhead lights. No matter what it says "must place inside." The other wings are fine. My choices seem to be to demolish the wing and start over, or keep it dark - you can only do so much with sconces and standing lamps and it's a lot more expensive. It doesn't seem to bother the residents, who are deeply in love and lust and had a Roof Raiser of a union-joiner by the Love Tub. But it bugs me.

    This is a glitch in the game. I have tried and given up with fully enclosed courtyards because they confuse the game engine as to what counts as inside and what counts as outdoors.

    As a rule overhead lights can only be placed in rooms that are fully enclosed by walls ... are you certain that the wing you're having trouble with isn't open on one side? Check that you haven't placed walls too close to the boundary of the plot which might be the cause of that ... the wall might be there but it is possible that the game can't "see" it. Walls generally cannot be built on the 2 squares nearest the edges of the plot unless you have the 'Move_Objects' cheat set to "on".

    Hopefully that will give you a clue to fixing the problem cos if it is true then just throw up a temporary wall up along the line place your overhead lights and then demolish the wall again.

    let there be light

    Thanks - it worked. Even though the wall was 'legal' according to the rules (no cheats involved), moving it over one square did the trick. A bit more narrow but now it's bright! And by the way, the courtyard is open on one side, though fenced. But now that my astronaut won a BIG MONEY grant for her BIG IDEA, I can build anything!
