Oh believe me both the real and the sim varieties are fully capable of the "reverse swallow"

Wot I wanna know is why the milk is green going in and blue coming back out? :p

There are a lot of things in the movie-thingies for Sims 2 that I have yet to see in the game.

Anyway, the last post I made was typed in a bit of a rush, so I wasn't able to properly read all of the replies in the thread, and now I know why I haven't seen some smelly green action: I hardly ever feed my babies! It seems a waste of time to me because the bottles always just sit there, and get all smelly, and my sims are never that neat... Usually the only food my simfants get in the baby stage are when one of my teen or adult sims are sitting around doing nothing, and (I always have free will on) they get the idea to feed it, even when it's sleeping. Somehow the social worker never comes, even though I'd classify it as Simfant Neglect.

    Hehe...smelly green action...hehe...

Here, Here! but at least you can buy a changing table. My game freezes if I even look at one to buy it. (shakes her head sorrowfully)

Ergo. The changing tables are so expensive! I usually only have them for families I've cheated with--never been able to build up a family from scratch and make money the hard way. My Legacy families have always stayed dirt poor because as soon as I make some more money, I buy a better version of what I already have, and then I'm poor again. I'll never survive in the real world.

Depressingly, or perhaps not suprisingly since I'm a *bit* older than you (ahem) ... I manage my sim's fortunes rather well. It helps if they're not fortune sims, though, because they're always needing to buy stuff to stay happy and ironically are the worst at saving their money.

Here's how I get some money into my little sim coffers: I buy them the smallest lot with a small house, with the cheapest wallpaper or paint I can stand (FYI, they hate undecorated interiors but for some reason don't mind a bare exterior). Then I buy them the bare necessities and one or two fun things depending on their aspiration. You can make a quite pretty house without spending a fortune. I plan to post one I was quite pleased with soon.

You'll probably be fairly broke at this point. That's OK. Get them a job and here's the hard part: Make them save their money until they have at least $3000 in the "bank." If you want to spend money make sure you don't go below $1000 or so. Buy a couple of money trees and keep tending them even if you're in the green. Don't replace things right away. Buy them something they don't already have. Even a cheap painting will brighten things up. Or save up for something cool like a piano.

Keep saving that money, and working on their career skills. If you answer a chance card correctly (see Pescado's many disparaging remarks thereon for the flipside viewpoint) you will get a lot of cash all at once to add to the dollars you've saved.

Then you can upgrade their house, their things, everything to what you really wanted. Yes, you can lose everything by answering a chance card wrong, so you can choose to ignore those if you want. I find they add an element of danger that livens up the game.

It also helps if they don't live alone. More adults means more income ... have adult children move back home after college for even more cash.

Anyway, that's how I do it. Remember, career advancement is key. Keep your eye on what they need to advance, and don't forget to maintain and add friendships (I call 3 sims daily unless I've got a baby in the house). No one gets rich on a dishwasher's salary. :p

Pshaw. My families always only have about $600 at a time. Also, no matter what choice I choose for the chance cards, I always end up losing money or skill points, or even getting fired (poor Mary-Sue).

LOL. One of my sims just retired after failing in three careers. He was the sad victim of some bad chance card choices by his comptroller (moi). Every time I thought he was on the brink of reaching the top he bummed out. I retired him as a scholar in the science track cos it would've been too painful to see him get busted down to lab rat ... again. :p

The technique I use when I get bad-chance cards is to save the game right before my sim goes to work, and if they get a bad-chance card, I exit the house without saving it and return to the house. However, the chance-card rarely pops up again that day. Ironically, the day I forget to save the game is the day they get the chance-card:mad: (and the negative result from it). But sometimes, when I don't like the sim, want to ruin their lives, or get a good result from the chance-card, I don't exit the house.

On reflection of the title of this thread I think we're starting go off topic:rolleyes:...

LOL ... except in this general discussion forum we don't get too worked up over such niceties. So long as we stick to talking about the game it can't possible go off-topic. The only time we want to stick strictly to staying on message with a thread's title is in the tech and help forums and that is primarily to help people find answers by searching.

I also try to save the game at regular intervals (usually just after everyone has gone off to work - for some of the reasons cookie mentions ;) ) but I forget for long periods which can be frustrating because I use reloads sometimes to replay an event that worked out badly because of something unexpected. For example the other day grandma was in the middle of dishing up the turkey dinner while her son was show the headmaster the upstairs bedrooms when we heard the sound of hawaiian music!

Her grandson still got in the school ... that turkey really was soul food ;)

Soul food. OMG I needed to laugh so thanks, Mirelly!

My sims get fired all the time. Dante did, so did Wolf. Dante and Lia are dirt poor right now. They don't even have an exercise machine. I had them move into a house I packaged from Pleasantview (yes I know, lazy). She's a dishwasher, he's a stay at home dad. They can't even afford a toy for their kid.

Ischade, my single mom, has way more money than they do. But she went to college and has lots of skill points. I started the Alighieris as adults and Lia has exactly one skill point, in cooking.

They were a little busy with the toddler I saddled them with. :D

Wow, almost none of my families can afford an exercise machine. They relie solely on the TV or radio. My new Legacy family doesn't even have a TV.
