    Those Pernicious Townies!!

OK well I am getting a little tired of all the Goopy Gilscarbo's and Ivy Copurs and all the other townies that the game keeps making ... So I've come up with what I've thought was quite a decent plan...

I've found a site called simlogical (You can google for it if you haven't heard of it before) that has a thing called a teleporter shrub. It basically will allow you to move townies in and make your resident sims into townies. So what I was thinking was I create myself a new neighbourhood, and using JMP's notownieregen mod, I would delete all characters (theres a way to do that using Ctrl-Shft-C I think) and then make a small house with this thing on the lot. I then create my townie families in CAS, move them in here and then change them into Townies with the shrub!

Though this might seem like a bit of work and it probably is, its about the best I can come up with. This way I also have control over all the townie names as well.

I am going to try testing this tonight after I make a backup, can anyone think of any potential issues with this? Has anybody tried anything similar and if so what problems and solutions did you guys find?

    :)

All I can think about (besides, yes, it's a lot of work) is that my neighborhood in the physical realm has a lot of Ivy and Goopy types, so it seems okay. I have a gun-toting flag-waver across the street, an arthritic Bible-reading couple next door, and a couple of comic book collectors next door. They're all neighbors! Who knows what category we're in? I think we're the painfully liberal folks with the barking dog.

Hey, that's MY family too ... :D (Painfully liberal, barking dog, not any of the others you mentioned.) Throw in an ancient cat and we could be clones. ;)

LOL. Except that it's easier to just make the families and leave them alone (unless you come up with a compelling reason to go play them. I still can't bring myself to play the Prosser's. Teela is a widow after an unfortunate occurrence involving Mr. P and a weird plant in a neighbour's yard. Their daughter, Ruth, has been at college for what seems like forever, she is everyone's friend and (sometimes) ... :p it seems she has 'made out' with just about everyone alive. Only today I decided it was time for Ruth to graduate ... and then I noticed little Taia Claypole! Taia who was Ruthie P's best buddy from their first day at school) and she's still a child. Yikes! Taia is also an orphan after her daddy fell victim to the ghosts (he died of fright) over at the decaying mansion belonging to the slightly dodgy femme fatale Stella Roth ... I guess that's what happens to ya when you're a very shy sim with a hankering for romance :p

Well an update ... it seemed to work, I created a new neighbourhood, deleted all the characters in it and created a new house with one resident, Dr James Peculiar. I then created the Uno family: Zane and his wife Alicia, Zane's sister Ilana, and Zane's son, Roy. Moved them into the house with Dr Peculiar and made them into Townies.

Now at least I know who's going to be running around the neighbourhood :)

The only problem now is that my favourite family (the Gazers) is in their third/fourth generation, living in nice mansion in my other neighbourhood. My other neighbourhood started off as a Legacy challenge with Star Gazer (corny I know), followed by his son Revin, his grandson Jeremy, with the fourth generation a few hours from becoming reality... I think I might clone Revin as he is the oldest surviving family member and create his long lost cousin in my new neighbourhood... :)

You could package their house with them inside and plop them into your new neighborhood. Of course, you'd have to rebuild all of their friendships ...

Actually, that's not a good idea. I don't know why, I'm sure that JMP could tell you, but it completely and totally screws up the game. It doesn't do it at first, but it happens later on. When I decided to do it back in November I got about a month of gameplay before the neighborhood completely crashed and I lost my 3rd generation legacy challenge family. Luckilly I hadn't deleted anyone when I packaged and moved them, so I just started playing my old neighborhood. And all of that went well until I got Uni and had problems. ;)

When is Nightlife coming out, again? So I know how many months my Simmies have to live?

Thanks for the heads up, Kristal. I had no idea simply moving a household could cause such problems. Probably confuses the code ... hey, wait, that doesn't go there, aaaaaahhhh!!! says the computer. :D

Hmm...maybe that's why I had all those problems when I first had Uni. Now my neighborhood (with the Curious and Singles familes moved in from Strangetown) seems to be just fine, with a 3rd generation baby boom going on.

Yes thanks to your experiences with this, and a seeing other posts with people experiencing the same issues, I decided that transferring any sims across would not be on. So I plan to do some research later on how to clone my sims (never done this before) and use that to transfer over my sims. Maybe its a good thing that I'm starting a new neighbourhood and some new families... I have learnt so much from these forums that I now am hopefully a better player and I also have a LOT more ideas about various stories to play with. :)
