Game-Running Problems (Freezing, no reflections in mirrors...)

    Hey-
Okay I do not know much about computers so I can't fill out your little form to help you guys, sorry, I'm computer challenged. All I know is that my brother knows a lot about computers and said that our computer is more than capable of running the sims. So here are the problems. The game can run smoothly but it freezes constantly, so like it will be going fine then freeze for a minute at random times or when sims grow up and all that stuff, like tranisition times. Also all my mirrors are black and do not show reflections. And thats not all, you know in the Sim Pannel, that allows you to select which sim, none of the faces show up, they are just blank little squares. This is for all created sims not pre-exostong sims. Also there faces don't show up in any of the wants/fears or on their bar. Its very weird. And when I play a house then save it, the next time I come back to play that house all, in the neighborhood view all the walls have disappeared and the roof is solid black. It makes my neighborhoods look awful! And finally, saving takes forever, and if I save and quit at the same time then my game freezes or it could take up to 2 hours to save. Ususally when I just hit save it takes up tp 15 minutes. Does anyone know how to fix it. My bro e-mailed The Sims Tech Help, and they told him some stuff to do, but it didn't work. It had to do with spyware protection. Has anyone else had this problem? And can someone help me? Thanks!
    -Conor

PS- I forgot also I can't take pictures or movies they turn out blank, and when I say paint a portrait it always just becomes a black picture (referrring to the easel here).

Our advice has to be (as always) do this:

    click Start
    click Run
in the little white box type: dxdiag then click OK

A little box appears and after a short time it fills up with lots of information. There are several ways to pass that information on but we don't need all of it. Just the stuff on the System and Display tabs. It does sound to me as though your computer is a fair way short on graphical processing power.

I thought that mirrors don't reflect! Well, my full mirror doesn't. The sim practices a speech and she can't see herself. Maybe mirrors actually reflect in Uni.

Mirrors reflect if your graphics settings are high enough.

yep. old intel integrated graphics didnt reflect (and would crash if i enable reflections). new radeon card has reflections enabled by default and they work.

sounds like whats happening with you is you have an intel graphics chip. follow the common suggestions like updating drivers, download the latest patches for everything (windows, ts2, etc), and last resort is an upgrade.

I have no reflections, either, so I just pretend they're vampires. :D

    Hey,
I have all the exact same problems you describe, however my game freezes particularly when i try to save. I've checked and my computer should be able to run it. Did you ever solve the problem?? if you could let me know i would appreciate it.

    Thanks,

These problems are often because of the configuration of the computer which has the Sims on it or because a component of the computer is not functioning correctly. To figure out what the problem is, the information about the computer needs to be stated. (See Mirelly's note about running a dxdiag to get the information.)
