A One Off Bit O' Custom Content

OK I finally got distracted enough to brush off the cobwebs from Homecrafter, to dust down my tarnished -- but oh-so-legally-owned :p -- Paint Shop Pro er 7 ... eh? I like to get money's worth. The reason for this burst of energy? I was getting fed up with the range of decor available on the web most of which is so "hoobazootic' to the extent that I feel I need tranks just to browse them or else they are so muraltastic that unless I am a fan of faeries, anime, or RPG (or preferably all three) I am largely perplexed by the bewildering choice of wall and floor designs that are on offer. Or else it is so badly executed that I go clean my eye-glasses ... in vain cos the stuff is still fuzzy and/or showing the artifacts of bad attempts at tiling.

In short I wanted a bit of raspberry for a wall. In a pattern. I didn't want it to take all day ... so I just used a stock PaintShop texture for a "pattern". The result is quite satisfying ... raspberries and cream. Pure summer. Mmmm.

Below is a zip file to unzip and stick in downloads if you wanna use it in game and a screenshot to show that the pattern matches. There is a white skirting board (kick board) jsut visible in the screenshot.

If anyone thinks this is worth my while I'll see about creating and uploading a lot more. I will dig out my Liberty prints from TS1 and go searching for more patterns and textures that ordinary folks might actually like to glue on their walls ... :p

Nice Mirelly!! I downloaded it, going to play it this evening and will let you know how it does in-game later tonight or tomorrow morning. But the screenshot looks gorgeous. I'm like you, I need some simple, grown-up wallcoverings. You have any nice-normal colored tile walls? Or maybe some that's partially tiled, like the bottom 2/3, and the top 1/3 papered or painted with a nice border? Like for a normal looking kitchen?

It loooks.....well...reminds me of a jail cell for some odd reason..for some odd reason....

Then again...its 3AM when I'm making this post, so something's in my bloodstream that I don't want ^_^

    A jail cell!?

I think it's pretty. I'd download it if I could Mirelly, but my settings are stupid. Don't ask.

I would think Mirelly would put this in the Custom Content Forums, With her "Senate Master" title. :D

LOL Slim. It was meant to be discussion about the scarcity of good quality custom content. I'm not offerring these items as serious downloads.

Anyway Kristal asked after tiles and I've been having a go at the principles and I am quite pleased with the result (tho don't take the color seriously - I needed some high contrasty color to help me see the effects of my texturing. (Credit to Inge whose tiled wall I used as a template because "square" tiles have be designed as rectangles :p) I think I have grouting joints looking pretty good and the "cushioning" of the individual tiles is the right balance between the real amount (probably 1/2 a pixel at this scale) and obviously overdone. I have seen both sorts on offer but very few in the middle ground.

I also extended the tiles higher. Half-tiled kitchens and bathrooms are generally tiled to a height of one or two tiles above the counter tops +/or appliances or fittings. However in future I will drop them down a bit. The wallpaper was my first ever attempt at making up a repeatable pattern ... again it isn't intended to be a serious offering just an example of work in progress. The zip file is offered for anyone to who wants to try out homecrafter because the bitmap file provides some useful proportions and wily operators will quickly deduce major improvements. (And hopefully they'll make the resulting better looking walls avaialble for me to download!! :) )

Mirelly, you inspired me! Haven't played the game in months, yet here I am, messing with home maker because I really liked the higher tiles on the wall. Anyway, here's what I created using your template...

Oh good stuff Sylla ... and patterned tiles as well! LOL (in a nice way) they remind me of some I had for a kitchen built in the 70's. How very retro of you ;)

Meanwhile back at the tile and wallpaper factory

I did this today in between searching for patterns, finding a GIMP and being described as a mean witch.

That person was clearly an idiot. You are a love.

    I love your kitchens.

BTW, I've been trying to upload pictures of my community centers but get frustrated by the sloooooowwww upload times my dialup causes. I will do so soon, I hope.

Oooh, 70's flashbacks, not good. When I was a kid I thought all adults just had bad taste. I thought, if olive, rust or goldenrod are the only three colors I get to choose from I'm going to go batty ...

Thank GOD that's not the only choice, anymore.

I love the raspberries and cream, BTW, having finally read this entire thread. Very nice, Mirelly ...

Wallpaper is HARD. Mine always gets stretched. I haven't made anything I wouldn't be embarrassed to share ... however I did make a nice floor that makes the room look like it's full of water, kind of. I'll try to upload it sometime soon if the dialup doesn't drive me nuts.

Ooh, now that's just mean :D ... and what's with this "we" stuff, anyway? Aren't we around the same age? I can hardly take the "credit" for fashion faux pas that happened when I was five, for crying out loud. ;)

Close enough for gossip, love ... but I was learning lipstick when you were still hoping for dry underwear :p (I only say that cos our birthdays are a matter of record ... I sure am not ashamed of mine! :D )
