help!!!!! Three of my sims have died now, but they still show up in the family portrait when you load the family? Any ideas?
similar things like this happen to me aswell, and other people i know aswell. so it might just be a small glitch that the game has.
Hmm, sounds interesting. I guess it would be pretty cool to still be able to see them on the loader screen. Wouldn't it be cool to be able to play the sim ghost? You could tell the ghost-sim to scare or leap through walls or something. And they'd have no hunger or energy needs at least!
This is a known bug, but not something that to my knowledge has been fixed by Maxis yet. One possible solution without using any hacks or mods is to move the family out of the house, bulldoze the house and move the family back in (or to another house). This generally works in situations where there is some corruption in the actual house itself. From what I can remember this is caused by the neighbourhood being too large (having too many sims in it) and related problems caused by this. What neighbourhood are you playing and how many sims do you have in it? The other solutions involve the use of hacks/mods that are provided by third party developers/modders. You would need to use these with caution however.
I had a sim lost to the ether (hint: never save and quit while the carpool car is only halfway off the lot) and she showed up in the family portrait for quite a while, in fact until someone new moved in. I managed to rescue her because she was still wandering around the neighborhood ...
LOL. I kinda understand the "wandering around" thing. I had a Sim wander off after a fight. He just walked off into the distance and figured I'd find him in the Sim bin when I went back to the neighborhood screen. He was one of the university profs so I wasn't that fussed about him, I'd only invited him over on a whim cos one of his former students had lit up a dummy (pacifier) icon in her wants and er ... she needed a male of the species. Anyway she moved him in and then kicked him out again. The trouble was that his icon didn't drop out from the household and as I watched it turned an alarming shade of red and I thought: "oops he's hurting bad in some kinda sim-limbo" ... so I saved and exited but he was in the sim bin anyway, so I lumbered Lucy Hanby with him; he can help her raise Benji, Gandalf and Mani (ooh she's been a busy little maid and no mistake ) Am I the only one who gets bored with service NPC's as soon as I've had my wicked way with them? I find it rather odd that a maid or a postman has as many skills (if not more) than a Chief of Staff but not quite as odd as finding that they went from being gainfully employed a microsecond before they are invited to move in to instantly unemployed the instant afterwards ... and what is worse they suddenly have high fallutin ambitions to become absolutely fabulous or better. Meanwhile the ultimate disappointment is the colleg professor who turns out to be a complete fraud : a bum without a college diploma ... let alone even the fresher-year extra want slot. I tell ya! It sometimes stretches my credibility almost to point of making it elongate.
Yes, indeedy. My poor Widow Hogan has been led astray by the attentions of the headmaster BJ Ryan. If the phone rang, it was him. He was always dropping by, showering her with complements and attention. Clearly, he was after her money, but her brother Wynter and his wife were oblivious. Wynter is, of course, a thoroghly eccentric mad scientist, usually to be found painting pictures of clowns when he's not away at the lab in the middle of the night doing who knows what dreadful things. His wife, Dagmar, dyes her gray hair bright colors, and goes out to parties all the time. So the lonely widow asked that rascal Ryan to move into the mansion, and he immediately (apparently) quit his job as headmaster of the private school. The man has almost no skills, no job, no college degree and only 1000 simoleans in his pocket. Well, I hope he makes the silly woman happy. She's 71 and probably hasn't much time left and if Ryan thinks he's got it made he's in for a surprise. The widow's daughters and nieces will throw him out as soon as her happiness is no longer at stake.
By "wandering" around I mean she wasn't playable in her home lot, even though she was still in the family portrait her icon was gone and so was she. Then, one day she wandered onto her future husband's lot so he made friends with her on the spot, romanced her and they fell in love. Luckily, for some strange buggy reason he could still call her on the phone. I had another couple break up and this was the weirdest: I can really describe it except to say it looked like they were under a strobe light and the plumbob flickered between the two of them and then Dad left the lot but his icon remained, getting steadily redder ... when I saved and exited there he was in the sim bin, waiting to be placed somewhere, and when I went back to the house his icon was gone ... whew.
Little late getting back to you on this but yes, I helped them move BJ out as soon as poor Andrea died. She turned into quite a pesky ghost and the family was forced to get rid of the cemetery (see Disappearing Tombstone thread). BJ didn't go far. He moved in with a family across the street (Brandi LeTourneau and Benjamin Long, I think) and he telephones regularly, poor wretch. His friendship points are useful, however, for getting promotions . I had also had a problem with the returning icon of the ghost, but couldn't get him to do anything. I was afraid my household would be corrupted so I got rid of the cemetery and all tombstones. Haven't seen hide nor hair of Wynter since then.
Does the "wandering around" refer to when someone finds their parter cheating on another sim and then they sorta leave? My friend said that happend to her.
No escape from Wynter's Curse I'm quoting myself because I spoke too soon. Wynter's daughter, Sybil, has a problem with giving birth to her third baby. The "name the baby screen" does not appear at all, and although she holds the baby for a moment she then puts it down on the floor and walks away. For a little while, no one can touch it. If it's alive (moving) and gets hungry and starts to cry, eventually one of the family figures it out and picks it up and the action resumes OK for the family from there. But there are bigger problems that do not clear up. The Build and Buy modes stay greyed (is that a word?) and unavailable and so do the options for Save, Quit and go to Neighborhood screen. Crtl-Alt-Del is the only way out of the game. Of, course, nothing is saved. I've tried the following: 1.) Moved the family out of the house into a new lot and house. 2.) Turned off the special events camera. 3.) Did a moveObjects cheat and deleted Sybil long enough to grow up her other two kids and send them off to college, thinking there might be too many Sims in the household. 4.) Played a marathon game (hours and hours between loads of laundry and some other cleaning while I was off from work yesterday ) where I raised Baby Girl Sparrow and sent her off to college and then played until her parents Sybil and George, and Aunt Kiara and Uncle Drake all died of old age. Drake Centowski, by the way, haunted the house in his college Llama suit . I tried this marathon game play in hopes that when the girl went to college the game would get out of its "name the baby" loop where I presume it got stuck. When that failed, I thought it might be cured when everyone in the household died. Well, the buy and build modes became available again but the Save, Quit, etc. did not. Drat, drat and triple drat, because the child grew into quite a lovely girl. 5.) No one is able to move out--they look in the paper or on the computer but no Move Out and take someone with you screen appears and they walk away from the attempt. 6.) They call a taxi and all climb in to go to a community lot. The taxi drives off, then drives right back up to the front of their house and they all get out and go back inside. It's like the Twilight Zone. Oh, well. Sybil's sister is safely at college. Kiara and Drake's two sons are also there. And Sybil's first two kids are in college, too. The Sparrow legacy family is still alive. The family mansion, Sparrow Tree, is currently gathering cobwebs but eventually one of the kids will make enough to buy it back. The family fortune of $400,000 is locked up with the cursed generation. And I say cursed, because Wynter still shows up in the information screen, the >i< button. I didn't realize at first, that he was still there. And his grandson reguarly phoned home from college asking for the old man and is always told, "He's not here." :cross-eyed: Pictures attached because I'm a compulsive picture taker: Drake's ghost and Sybil's two kids. Griffin looks exactly like his father, George McCarthy. And finally, Sybil and the Baby Girl I can't save.
That's very weird. Do you have any idea why it's happening? Do you think it's related to having all those ghosts? I love the Llama ghost, by the way! Too funny. Kopo, my sim "wandered" because I saved and exited when the carpool was still visible, half on and half off the lot. When I returned to the game Anya had vanished into the ether, or so I thought ...
Lynet, Have you tried the boolprop testingcheatsenabled true cheat? Also you say the only escape is via ctrl alt del but when you reload the family at what point does the game recommence? Is mama already in labor? If so it might be a bug in the same category as saving games while a sim is using a cellphone. I am assuming therefore that the problem you describe is repeatable. Have you tried Pescado's lot debugger? Because you should be able to get into buy mode to buy one (after downloading it) if you're quick enough after reloading the game.
I wonder if your lot is courrupted as well. Try JMP's lot debugger. If that does not work, you might have to move them out. It happened to me with my Legacy Family. :(
For what? There is time enough before she goes into labor to pause the game. She chats with people for a minute or so. This is when I was able to do the moveObjects cheat and delete her in order to raise her first two kids and get them out of the household. I hadn't tried the Lot Debugger. I'll see if I can manage that. (Now I'm going to get in trouble--I haven't downloaded any of Pescado's stuff .) At the moment my husband is using my computer. I'm using my sons iBook to read the board here and I hate this Mac machine keyboard. Where's the @#$% backspace? Oh, there it is Yes, Kristalrose, I did move them out of the family mansion and into a new lot and house. The problem went with them. Bothered me to lose the family portraits but I've still got the family album.
