    Create-A-Sim Foggy

Al played TS2 last night after I went to bed. (I had hogged it all day, bad Mommy!) He woke me up about 11:30 because he was having a problem loading CAS. He was playing his "Strangetown" neighborhood on his own XP account, so I would assume that nothing I had done to my game or downloaded to my game would affect his. Anyway, CAS appeared to load normally until it got to the "Name of Family" screen. The screen was gray and looked like it was full of fog or mist, but the little orange and blue window and the menu were there like normal. So, I entered a name and clicked on the checkmark. It continued to the next step, the "changing room" screen, but again the screen was gray and foggy looking. The menu worked normally. But we couldn't see the Sim! LOL

I didn't switch over to my account and try it on my neighborhood. I had played with CAS the previous day and it had worked fine, but again, I don't think that matters since this was on Al's XP account that we are having trouble. I told him to shut it off and go to bed, and that when I come home from work today I'll take a look and see if I can find the problem. So, what should I look for? Anyone experienced this or have any idea what's causing this?

Is Al your husband? The pat on the head, that's nice, honey Sims are weird guy? If so, congratulations on creating a potential simmer, though you may never get to use the computer again. At least you'll have another thing to talk about LOL.

On the foggy front, weird. All I can think is, maybe it's your graphics card? I am such a dummy about stuff like hardware, but that sounds like a graphics problem to me. If all of your other programs are running OK it must be the Sims, but have you checked? It could be that something blew a fuse.

That's all I could think of. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be able to give you better advice.

I just wanted to say, way to go in dragging your husband into the game! If Al is indeed your husband and not your son.

Nope, Al is my 14-year old child with Aspergers Syndrome that wears red all the time and wants to be a Video Game Programer when he grows up. :) He's really funny about his Sims, too. He does not allow them to fall in love or to woo hoo or to have children. He just wants to create them, build their houses, and then play them for a little while until he gets bored and makes another group.

He did build a haunted house and started killing off sims. I taught him the boolprop cheat because I didn't want him sitting there watching a sim suffer the way he had been. Someone, please don't tell Jack Thompson. LOL LOL

Edit: Hubby played TS1 a couple of times. He originally created my Napoleon Bonypart Sim and built his house. One day he was bored while I was at work and created a "house of ill-repute." That entertained him for about an afternoon. Somtimes he will look over to the computer to see what I have my Sims doing, and pretend to be interested for about half a second. He got a good laugh out of watching a ghost tease my cowplant. :) Except for that, he has no interest.

LOL Kristal but did you find out what was causing the foggy CAS screen?

I missed seeing the hyphens in the title the first time I read it and I thought you'd made a Sim version of a character called Foggy (from a very long running Brit sitcom that only very old people still find funny ... or maybe they only watch it because sooner or later every member of Equity over 90 gets to be a guest star thereby leading to jolly arguments over the cucumber and canned Pacific salmon sandwiches that go: "good lord, I thought he/she was dead!" to whcih the reply is usually "he/she is dead this is a re-run" ...) Er. I think I need to finish up the decorating get my PC unpacked. I'm getting loopy from not playing The Sims. :p

Arrgh, no, but it gets curiousor and curiousor. :(

I had him boot up TS2 on his XP account and try again. I was wrong, it's not really gray, but a lovely shade of sky blue. (I guess I didn't have my eyes open all the way last night). I switched over to Pleasantview, a neighborhood that has never been played, and again, blue screen on CAS. I shut down the game and moved his "Downloads" Folder out of his The Sims 2 Folder. This did not fix the problem. I then switched over to my XP Account and booted my regular game. It worked perfectly, CAS loaded normally.

Sooooo, it's just his game, on his XP account. My game has not been affected. I've ruled out a download because I removed the Downloads folder. I was thinking that somehow he's got a file courupted, but how do I find which one? And if I do the simple thing, a reinstall, while saving games, won't that affect my game, too?

Before attempting a re-installation I would attempt the following: Create a new user account on XP and run the game under that. That should probably work, then you would just need to identify what happened to his profile that makes CAS go blue.

Thanks Gary! That worked like a charm. My son and I have spent the last hour copying files over to his new account. When we booted up the game the final time, and his houses and sims were there, and then started CAS and it worked perfectly, I think I actually saw him blink back tears.

He said a big thanks to everyone who helped, and that he is "in your debt."

No problem, I saw that you posted the same query on JMP's site. Some more helpful answers there than mine ... :)

Anyway glad its working properly now.

I just love happy endings. They make me all sentimental ... :D

Glad your son is able to play the Sims again. He sounds a lot like my daughter. She loves making families and giving them houses to play in but never plays them for very long ... so they never age or even get jobs sometimes. When her cousin visits they play a little, but then run off and do something else, which is just fine with me.
